Well last night was the first new South Park episode since April, this time the topic was that of Hurricane Katrina and the media frenzy. I think Randy Marsh summed it up pretty perfectly with, "That's not what's important right now Stan. What's important is to figure who the hell's fault all this is." That itself is a great comment on all the finger pointing and whining in the media instead of focusing on actually helping people. The left saw it as a political oppurtunity to jump on Bush which was kind of petty.

Loved the bashing of The Day After Tomorrow as well.

I thought it was a decent episode. The reporting of huge bodycounts was amusing, as well as the Day After Tomorrow/Global Warming stuff. But if they were trying to make any kind of commentary about Katrina, that part just fell flat in my opinion. Maybe that's how the unaffected parts of the country saw it through the eyes of the 24/7 news coverage.

I thought it was a good episode and I loved the Day After Tomorrow slamming and all the Katrina bashing. The best part was the end when Stan confessed that he broke the dam and everyone else thought he was being symbollic and started along with "I broke the dam too". Good stuff with room to improve.

Best part for me....

Randy Marsh in front of a USA map with a marker. Starts drawing on it and says, to paraphrase: "We need to move people below this line. People above this line are already dead. People in the balmy southwest should be ok. NYC will have massive tidal waves".

Random guy in crowd does a "pssst" amd points to map.

Randy Marsh looks at it, starts to scribble it out while saying "Oh, Goddam it!!!!"

The "Stan is the only sane person in a town full of moronic adults" formula is pretty hit and miss for me. This time, it was mostly a hit. It's always good when Stan is pushed to near-insanity. ("NO, I BROKE THE F*CKING DAM!!") I also liked that "feeling warm" was the "first sign of the final stage of hypothermia".

The "Jew gold" subplot with Cartman and Kyle was weird and felt like it belonged in another episode.

All in all, a pretty decent season premiere, especially since Matt and Trey were on the radio YESTERDAY MORNING saying they were still finishing it.

Was it just me, or was there absolutely NO advertising by Comedy Central that the new season of South Park was starting up? It seemed strange, seeing as how new episodes are such a rare occurrence nowadays ...

They've been running ads for several weeks. It's just that there's no new footage in the ads because, as I mentioned, Matt and Trey tend to finish the episodes on the day they air.

So did anyone see the latest episode? Not much social commentary but more like an oddball episode with plenty of Butters torture.

When the parents saw the Butters mannequin splatter on the ground I thought it was hilarious. Also random farmer's going to Butter's father telling him not to bury his son's body in the Indian burial ground.

I don't know if it's been revealed before, but Butters last name is Scotch ..as in Butterscotch.

Don't know how many will get the Pet Semetary reference.
The Doctor checking on the splattered dead pig --"Yep, he's dead" was funny.

That's wrong - it's Leopold "Butters" Stotch.

Also, his father's first name used to be Chris but now it's not, which bums me out.

South Park went back to social commentary this week with an episode addressing gay marriage and same sex parents.
In other words, its a great way to reintroduce BIG GAY AL in the series. Man, it seems like its been forever since we've seen him.

I loved it when Garrison tried to organize a mob for a "FAG DRAG" and the conservative towsnpeople just said they don't hate homosexuals, they just don't want to get married.

I wonder if Cerebus is upset about the way Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part I was snubbed. It was the third biggest movie of the year in the U.S., and a bigger hit than Pirates. Why didn't Robert Pattinson get his well deserved best actor nomination?
