When Kurt Angle returns to the active roster:

Who do you think will become the new General Manager?

Who would you want to be GM?

I think Stephanie will most probably worm her way back in or maybe Heymen again. I'd like Mick Foley to become it, but I doubt this. I hope whoever it is they will be entertaining but do not steal the spotlight too much. I wonder if the WWE will ever return to the Jack Tunney type President who only shows up occasionally. A non-wrestler, I think JR would have made a good one on Raw, they teased this once when Bishoff was fired.

I'd say Angle will either stay on as a part-time wrestler, part-time GM, as I can't see him every wrestling every week on SmackDown. He'll most likely just throw himself into main events and wrestle whenever it suits himself. Otherwise I reckon it'll be Heyman for the job, or even JBL, who knows?

I was about to say "William Regal" but no, Foley's good. It would be cool if a heel Austin would do the job- or mabe even Hogan (imagine the possibilities?). I think everyone I just mentioned are the least likely though.

Torrie Wilson.

Now before you guys stone me, give it some thought. It gives Torrie something to do; the fans love her, so she may as well have a reason to come out every week. Plus, with her as GM, instead of moving forward with the oh-so-tired "Evil Authority Figure" storyline, you could press ahead with the innovative "Incredibly Hot Chick wearing revealing outfits but with a lot of power" storyline. She's good for a face pop whenever she emerges from the back, and wrestlers wouldn't know what to make of her. Plus, she could continue with her sexually suggestive Diva moments, such as booking a match from a hot tub, or emerging from the shower to surprise an irate wrestler who busts into the GM's office. And imagine the hilarity as rivals Sable and Dawn Marie would have to succumb to the awesome backstage stroke of Torrie Wilson. She'd be the female Triple H!

Would Stephie want to be away from Hunter that much to appear on SD? That would only give them Thursdays together most weeks...

Triple H travels to Smackdown tapings as well, since he's now officially on the booking committee and is for all intents and purposes a McMahon.

Madiq's idea about Torrie as the GM is pretty cool. Whomever it is, though, will be Smackdown's FOURTH general manager since the brand split (Steph, Heyman, Angle), as opposed to just Bischoff on RAW (who only shared power with Austin, and was a constant in every episode). Smackdown's instability at the leadership position is yet another reflection of how the WWE writers have no long-term focus on that show. It's like a team in pro sports....who's more stable, a team that changes GMs every year or a team that has one guy and lets him run things until he fails?

Smackdown does feel like a revolving door of GMs. I like the Torrie idea, but honestly a female GM is not taken seriously. Someone always had to come in to save Steph's ass. Kurt and Paul were smart they have henchmen to do their work and plus a healthy Kurt doesn't need defending. I would prefer Foley since he would give Smackdown the big name they are seriously lacking right now and it would be fun to see Foley interact with Rey, Cena, Booker and RVD. Plus, he has great history with Taker. His history with Taker would be enough, since he sans Austin that has a winning record against him even in the old days.

I gotta say something about Steph as GM here too. When she was first hired as GM couple of years ago, not a lot of people liked it (in storyline). Not just because she's a McMahon, but because she had like THREE YEARS of heel material behind her, and most folks remember that. She didn't do an awful lot to answer for that, since she was TRYING to be a babyface GM.

I know it's probably because McMahons can turn as often as they want without much Explanation, but still it would have added credibiility if she said something right after being hired, like "I know you don't trust me, and I can't blame you, but..." You guys know what I mean?

When she feuded with her daddy, well, I couldn't muster up the sympathy for her. She just came off half assed as a sympathetic sort, because she didn't really answer for much of what she was doing as a heel (since most of the folks she made miserable at the time now worked under her), especially since most of that was with her daddy. And no, that whole rant she did about the business associates don't count.

So, that really her Steph's stock as a character, so I'm not too hot about seeing her back as GM. The credibility's screwed up.

Foley's not happening after the brouhaha over Flair's book. It's been reported he took Flair's comments very personally, felt betrayed by the WWF for publishing them, and isn't returning Vince's calls.

Keep Regal right where he is. Just as I thought, the Eugene angle has gotten him over huge as a babyface on Raw, and to move him over now would pretty much kill all the momentum he's built up over the past two months.

Forget about Austin or Hogan.

Torrie Wilson would be interesting for all the reasons Madiq mentioned, but she lacks credibility. (Seriously, I thought the idea was stupid before I took the time to process it properly in my head.)

The answer: Teddy Long. He's available (having just separated from Jindrak); he's got the experience (his guest GM stint on Raw stemming from Mark Henry's favor); he's credible; and the capacity for a strong overall experience is just as much there as it is for Torrie (and you know why).

As much as I like Teddy Long, nobody takes that character seriously. It might be a funny joke for a couple months, but it'd get stale very fast. The GM role needs to be filled by someone with credibility.

I'm pulling this name totally out of thin air, but it's an idea to think about....what about Arn Anderson? He'd be a good, stern authority figure who wouldn't necessarily have to be ultra-face or ultra-heel, and I think he's got the respect that people would accept him in that role.

In the end, though, remember this...when they first started the GMs idea, WWE.com teased that Dusty Rhodes could be the Smackdown GM. Always remember it could always be worse.

Now that makes sense; In the storylines, (if you can go back in time with me for a moment) it was suggested that if Eric Bischoff lost his job he would be replaced by Shane. If Eric is still on RAW and the SD spot is open, I dont see why Shane cant fill it.

"Foley's not happening after the brouhaha over Flair's book. It's been reported he took Flair's comments very personally, felt betrayed by the WWF for publishing them, and isn't returning Vince's calls."

Dammit! Foley would have been a cool GM. If he can get over it there could be hope; he wont have to deal with Flair on SD anyway- right?

I dont actually have an opinion on Madiq's Torrie idea, it just made me laugh when he said; "she'd be the female Triple H!" right after talking about her wearing revealing clothing and coming out of a bathtub to talk to an irate wrestler. Sorry M, it was just too funny of a mental image..."

Why does Foley's name keep getting brought up as general manager? The guy was pretty damn entertaining as a wrestler, but mediocre as a general manager. Seriously, Foley wasn't 1/10th as entertaining as Regal was. And as bad as people like to claim Kurt Angle is as GM, I find him a lot more interesting than Foley ever was...

Was he really mediocre as a GM? The first time I remember him being "GM" he was actually the comissioner (probably mispelled)- he didnt really get involved in the storylines. Then when he was GM; he had that whole Randy Orton issue; and he left. At what point did we get to enjoy any Mankind-type shenanigans?

In any case; William Regal would be a good choice as you have pointed out, but he is involved with the Eugene storyline on RAW unless his part in that is over.

I actually wouldn't hate JBL in the role. His promos and character have been spot-on, even if I still don't want him to be champion. Put him in a talking role and keep him out of the ring (oh, and you'd have to get the belt off him first, too. Gee, that's too bad. )

The Torrie idea's brilliant, too, if only because SD Divas are essentially useless window dressing. Teddy Long would be cool. Regal needs to stay where he is and Foley's not happening.

If you're going total longshot, out of the blue, I'd humbly suggest either DDP. It's almost too bad they fired the Cat, his commissioner period in WCW was the only time he was entertaining.

I have to agree with Who Took My Honor. Foley was a great Commish. He had Angle, Edge, and Christian to give the show a goofy feel to it. A lot of the good wrestling angles are funny look at Eugene.
But Foley was a terrible co-gm. He was only there for a few weeks and that was to set up the Orton angle. If Mick wants the job let him have it.
AA would make a great GM but how many people know who he is? Maybe if the WWE released a best of the 4 Horsemen DVD (which they should anyway) so the majority know who AA is then it would be a good idea. Or bring him into some on screen role first.
I like the DDP idea. I also think the Torrie idea could be good if done properly. Why do GM's always have to be heels? Sure Austin got over huge with that gimmick but it is old now.
But they should probably just give Heyman the job. Make Angle a face GM again. Have UT become part of Heyman's alliance. Then throw in a few other wrestlers and have a Survivor Series match for GM spot. It couldn't be any stupider than last years which let to Cena being a face which is OK but also to Hardcore getting a title shot.

Don't forget WWE is supposedly electing some kind of "president" around the time of the presidential election. If Stephanie shows up somewhere, I bet it'll be in that role just so they can make a big deal out of something no one cares about...Stephanie being the "first woman president."

Shawn Michaels?

I don't know where he has been if he's taking time off or injured but when he returned it could be to SMackdown as part time GM/part time wrestler since he could probably stand to not wrestle every week. Plus on the few occassions that he does wrestle they could have some pretty fresh feuds. Eddie vs. HBK, HBK vs. Cena, HBK vs. Angle.

Please, anybody but Foley.

He's taking time off to be with his wife, who's pregnant, I believe.

And I think he's already got a feud with Kane set-up for his return.
