Would love to buy one, but would also love to have the time to devote to playing it . . .

Of course, I could just buy it as a blu-ray DVD player . . . (right?) . . . hmmmmmm

I bought mine for the Blu Ray, for the most part, and play games once in a blue moon.

I've been on more of a PS3 game kick recently, but the use of it as a Blu-Ray player still trumps the game playing.

The quality PS3-exclusive games are also starting to pile up. If you pick up a PS3, you can also help yourself to Uncharted (and its sequel), Infamous, Ratchet and Clank, and Little Big Planet and come away a happy camper.

Also, DC Universe Online hits next year, which is something every comic fan should be stoked about.

I think if I didn't have a 360 already I would be starting to get interested in the PS3. Not fully on board as most of the games I really want are on both platforms anyway, but there's at least a little temptation there. Still don't care about Blu Ray though.

Yeah, right now there aren't any games that I have to play on the PS3, although I'm glad to see the price drop in case any get announced. The thing that still bothers me, though, is that (as far as I know, I might be wrong about this) the new model still lacks backwards compatibility. I know that's not a major issue for everyone, but I already have way too many things plugged into my tv. I'd really rather not have stack a PS3 on top of my PS2, which is already sitting on a 360.

If you have a PS3, and presumably new games to go with it, are you really going to playing the PS2 all that much?

Kinda weird that Sony announced the PSP Go at E3 but not this price drop/PS3 Slim, and yet this all going down a month earlier than the new handheld is coming out.

Other announcements from Sony that got buried
- As part of their Digital Reader bringing Marvel comics onto the PSP, though it won't be the newest comics and is different then their online comics service (also not the newest comics)
- They're pushing for smaller sized games thru PSN - clearly trying to compete with iPhone game apps
- nothing about the motion controller until their show in Tokyo
- and lots of trailers for games. Already pre-ordered Uncharted 2.

I once thought that I would be upset at the lack of backward compatibility. It turns out that I don't play any of the PS2 games anymore. This became one of the reasons I did end up buying the PS3 (along with Blu-Ray and MGS4).

Speaking of Uncharted 2, I finally rented the first Uncharted game, and it was worth the hype. It was a fantastic game, and now I am stoked for the sequel.

I barely play my PS2 games now, I use my PS2 as my DVD player. If I can still watch my normal DVDs on the PS3, I'm definitely picking one up. InFamous alone makes the system worth my time.

The Blu-ray player is backwards compatible with regular DVDs.

I forgot to mention the 3.0 firmware update (which looks better, but don't care all that much) and Home (which I don't care at all). There's also this followup interview with Ars Technica, re PS2 backwards compatibility.

"It's not coming back, so let me put that on the table," Koller says with an air of finality. But it's all people ever talk about!

"It's not as big as a purchase intent driver as you may be hearing," he claimed. "We've got such a substantial lineup of titles on the PS3; most people are buying the PS3 for PS3 games. They've buying it for PS3 games and Blu-ray movies."

"That won't be returning," he repeats.

Of course they're buying PS3 for PS3 and Blu Ray movies - if you're buying it now for PS2 compatibility, you've been out of luck for some time now.

There goes my reason for buying a SLIM - I'll hunt down an earlier version PS3 with the EMotion Chip or whatever it was called.

My apartment is small - I need machines that do more than one thing - and if I'm gonna play PS3 and PS2 games, I can't have two machines - I'll get the one that does it all. It's like when I bought the first generation PlayStation - I got it because I also wanted a CD player after my hifi unit died.

Another thing to bear in mind is that if you have a HD TV, you can upscale your existing DVDs to a near HD resolution.

Whoa, slow down, one big purchase at a time. Not that I'll be making that purchase anytime soon; my local Gamestop ordered a lot of PS3s for the launch, and had a ton left over. After the price drop? GONE. Not a one left. :(

I'm Charlie Owens, good night, and good luck.
