Hello friends - Independence Day kind of makes this week an afterthought as far as releases go, but we still have 152 or 153 DVDs and 18 or 19 Blu-rays to tell you about.

As usual, hover over a title for the pre-order price (usually when new DVDs are at their cheapest), click to visit Amazon and maybe learn more. We also provide more information by way of links to the Internet Movie Database, tv.com, movie websites and distributor information.

Without further ado, let's head straight away to our

PICK OF THE WEEK

I got nothin'...so instead, let's put the Doctor Who up here at the top!

Doctor Who: The Space Museum/The Chase (Stories 15 and 16) (The W at Amazon) (BBC, 1965) The Doctor (William Hartnell) and company discover their future selves - and then chase some Daleks around - ten episodes total
Doctor Who: The Time Monster (Story 64) (BBC, 1972) The Doctor (Jon Pertwee), Jo and UNIT battle The Master once again - six episodes
Doctor Who: Underworld (Story 96) (BBC, 1978) The Doctor (Tom Baker), Leela and K9 meet the Minyans at the edge of the cosmos - four episodes
Doctor Who: The Horns of Nimon (Story 108) (BBC, 1979-80) The Doctor (Tom Baker) and Romana (Lalla Ward) come up against a minotaur (sorta) - four episodes

Sorry for the late post, but I actually just saw this movie last week in the local indie/foreign/artsy-fartsy theater and thought it was fantastic! The book was terrific, and the movie was VERY true to the book. It is a really good story, and the acting was great. There was zero book-to-movie disappointment at all for me, though my expectations for the Hollywood release next year (or whenever) are considerably lower. That said, it doesn't look like the reviews for the next two movies in the series (The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets Nest) are nearly as positive. My wife didn't read the book and loved the movie also, so if you can handle subtitles for around 150 minutes, I would definitely recommend this...and if you're looking for a good read, the books are even better.

Hey! It's been like a month since I've done that. Now I don't even remember who I would want cast as Lisbeth Salander. I remember suggesting Megan Fox (in all seriousness, she could do it). Mary Elizabeth Winstead would be really good. I forget who else I Tweeted about. Roger Ebert wants Kristen Stewart, who would work, but she wouldn't be my first choice. Ebert also seems to think Carey Mulligan has the role locked up, although I don't know if he has any inside information on her being cast -- you're right, I really can't stop talking about this. One thing's for damn sure, whomever David Fincher casts, she better be willing and able to get nekkid.

I've been reading a bunch that it's gonna be Daniel Craig and Mulligan in the lead roles. I've also heard Natalie Portman (dunno), and Ellen Page (might work) for Salander.

This is probably why I have no future as a Hollywood type, but I'd seriously, seriously consider letting Noomi Rapace carry the role over to the American version. She nailed the first movie, she can speak English, and if her performance in the first movie was in English to begin with, she'd be getting major Best Actress buzz (in fact, she did win the Swedish equivalent of the Oscars Best Actress award for the film when it was released in Sweden in 2009).

She's not interested. "I have done my Lisbeth," she says.

Mulligan was really good in An Education. I dunno if she can do "tough," though.

DEAR GOD, this arc makes the finale essentially a 6-parter going back to "Tears of a Sea Cow". This series is PHENOMENAL. Favorite moment: There are so so so so so many, but I have to go with the Brock shark.
