So Konami went ahead and released a 27(!!!) minute long trailer for their upcoming remake of Metal Gear Solid on the Gamecube. Granted its only been about five or six years since it came out, it seems a bit short to be remaking the game, but if you want to relive some of the awesomeness that MGS was, and you've got a half hour to kill, this trailer is sweet!

Edit: In related news (cube.ign.com), Nintendo and Konami will be releasing a special Metal Gear Gamecube with the game in Japan, and included in the package is a disc with some video footage and the original NES Metal Gear. Its doubtful the special Gamecube will be released stateside, but there's hope the NES Metal Gear disk will make it.

Eh, the original versions of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 are far superior to the NES versions.

Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Snake's Revenge were originally released for the NES.

Not to put words into InVerse's mouth, but I think he was referring to the versions for the MSX computer, and I do believe those were before the NES releases, except for Snake's Revenge, which was an NES-only affair.

The MSX Metal Gear 2 was more in the spirit of the first game.

EDIT: Clarifying what the hell an MSX is.

Dig the power of google!!!

From here (gamespot.com):

This 8-bit incarnation of Metal Gear had undergone a few minor changes by the time it made it to American consoles. Many of the backgrounds had changed, and maps were laid out differently. The translation was a bit odd in parts. And although Big Boss is still the eventual bad guy, you are led to believe that a terrorist named Vernon CaTaffy is controlling the Outer Heaven group. The changes weren't earth shattering, but die-hard Metal Gear fans agree that the MSX version is the definitive Metal Gear.

Edit: Thanks for the clarification, Enojado!

Does Liquid sound different to anyone else? Why didn't they just use the old audio? His accent sounds a little off... hmm.. maybe its just me.

"Huard, gonna go back to throw the ball. Sets up, looks, throws towards the corner of the endzone...it is INTERCEPTED INTERCEPTED, THE DUCKS HAVE THE BALL! Down to the 35, the 40. Kenny Wheaton's gonna score! Kenny Wheaton is gonna score! 20, the 10, Touchdown! Kenny Wheaton on the interception, the most incredible finish to the football game!" Jerry Allen... 'Nuff Said

Cam Clarke (imdb.com), aka James Flinders, has voiced Liquid Snake in the all the Metal Gear games, including this one.

They couldn't just use the old audio because there's tons of new dialogue added. They expanded on the old script, and *reshot* some scenes, so that while the plot may be familiar (if anyone can remember/understand it), it should provide a whole new experience. Or something like that...

Let's just hope it isn't as convoluted as Sons of Liberty was. God, I loved Metal Gear Solid so much. I don't know if there's ever been a sequel as disappointing as Sons of Liberty.

Please God...

MGS and MGS2 spoilers below!

I just played through MGS 2 again this past week. The plot makes a lot more sense now, but it is still way too far fetched.

MGS was just too hard to follow up. It is nigh impossible to make a great sequel to a great piece of literature. What makes it even more impossible in MGS' case is that it is a mystery type game. Every new sequel HAS to have some kind of twist, and after a while, the story is just fucked.

I mean, the first game was great because it was believable, even throughout the plot twists. MGS 2 HAD to outdo it, so everyone had ulterior motives.

Can't we just have a straightforward game anymore? Save the girl, kill the badguy. Guess not
Plus, Solidus just isn't Liquid. You don't really get acquainted with Solidus till the very end. And he isn't really the only bad guy, which only confuses us more!
We knew Liquid from the beginning, and he was a complete badass(that accent really helps).

It is also hard to replicate the bosses from MGS. Each was distinct and intriguing. None of them really cared for the cause they were fighting for, they just wanted to fight(save Ocelot and Liquid, who were both using each other, and being used in the process by the Patriots). Vamp pisses me off cuz you can't really kill him. Fortune wasn't interesting, and Fatman was on rollerskates

If we play MGS3, and the Patriots are just tools of somebody else, then the storyline is just fucked. The end of the game set up pretty well. Liquid is going after the Patriots(although in Ocelot's body, which is out there), and we need to stop him and the patriots. Should be a good game if they don't try to add more conspiracies than needed.

One question though, are the Patriots the La Li Lu Le Lo, the one and the same, or do we even know?

One and the same.....

And no, you really couldn't finish Vamp. He's standing there watching you briefly in the ending

Keep an eye out on Donkey Kong folks; those fine people at Retro Studios are running the show on that one. Expect nothing but quality. An impressive showing by Nintendo. I need a 3DS yesterday.
