So it seems these days, whenever a superhero movie comes out, it's accompanied by an animated series of some sort, which is usually something to get excited about. "Iron Man" appears to be no different. And here's the trailer:

Iron Man: Armored Adventures trailer

Oh...yikes.

This...is...wow...where do I begin?

A series focusing on Tony Stark as a teenager is just wrong. It doesn't allow for the focus on any of what makes the Stark character. He's a millionaire, businessman playboy. I understand this is marketed towards a younger audience, but that never seemed to stop the Batman series (serieses?) that came before this. And hey, that classic origin? Totally out the window. But that isn't even the worst problem.

Tony, Rhodey, and Pepper aren't plucky teenagers. This isn't Spider-Man or X-Men. Their age shouldn't be up for interpretation, because it significantly alters the "Iron Man" mythos. The plucky teenager dynamic just doesn't work here and is out of place.

And what the hell is up with the Mandarin? Since when is he a cyborg?

The trailer gets a thumbs down from me. The upcoming X-Men series looks much more promising.

Yup. That looks pretty weak. It was a popular movie so why not have the cartoon take the lead from that? I don't get it.

After this, I thought we had all agreed to just pretend that Tony Stark emerged from the womb as a billionaire industrialist with a mustache, never having been a teenager. EVER.

I was kinda hoping "The Crossing" had been a fever dream, but since other people remembered it, I guess it happened. Damn it all.

I keep hoping one of these days someone will y'know, NOT use the Mandarin as a villain, as he's completely ridiculous. But then I remember that IM's rogue's gallery is pretty slim and commies are about as passe as the Yellow Peril.

So. . .uh, yeah, this isn't very good. To the other animated series that they've tried to spin off from popular movies (i.e. FF) they at least try to keep most of the core concept intact but from what I see here this could be pretty much any show--the connection's all but incidental.

Still, they tried a more faithful version back in the 90s and I guess that didn't work. Still . . .this is what they came up with instead?

Ah well--it's not for me, anyways. Maybe the kids'll get it.

You have not been reading IRON MAN lately, I assume, because The Mandarin has been quite awesome in his evilness. He's taken his rings and inserted thim into his spine. He's also creepy.

I am kinda partial to the character, though, cause I still remember the great storyline where he had the flowing reen robe and was floating around controlling FIN FANG FOOM, making him fight Iron man and it was bad ass.

(Personal Favorite!) The Ghost!
The Gremlin... uhh...

Madame Masque
Klaw
Living Laser (hehehe... lame.)
Crymson Dynamo

Nahh. . .haven't read it recently, tho I have been picking up INVINCIBLE IM.

As for the Mandarin's upgrade--been there, done that, never makes him a damn bit interesting to me. C'mon--he's the Yellow Claw. With bling.

But at least it isn't "dragon hands," I'll give them that much. Jesus when the 90's were awful, they were really awful.

You left out Firepower, Midas, Force, Whiplash/Blacklash, Blizzard, Firebrand, Dr. Doom, Controller, Unicorn, Dreadknight and MODOK.

. . .and yeah, I remember when Spymaster bit it. Materialised in a wall. That's some raw shit to do to somebody.

One of the many reasons The Ghost is pretty awesome, we agree there for sure.

With Batman's animated shows, network execs have always pushed for more Robin so that the kids have someone to relate to, I guess.

Well, Batman is a key franchise character for DC, it's in their interest to protect him (now)...I wouldn't say the same about Iron Man.

But the core issue is that, unlike DC, Marvel still has no clue how to license their characters. To me, it seems like every time they sort of begin to go down the right way with a TV show or film, they totally veer off course and screw it all up (see: Spider-Man 3 and X-Men 3--I hated all of them, but I know I'm in the minority on that).

There's a lot more I could say (and I originally did), but I think it'd be simpler to put it this way metaphorically:

Unlike DC, Marvel hasn't yet realized the damage rubber nipples can do to a character.

This is all serious business.

Being that it's going to be on Nicktoons, tho, I suspect the network might well have insisted on certain elements appealing to their demographics.
