I do know about this stuff. These books are humongous best sellers. I only read the first one and I thought it was okay; it didn't fill me with revulsion like Dan Brown's oeuvre but I wouldn't say it was great or anything. But a lot of people do. The Swedish film The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is very well regarded by American critics and audiences that have seen it. I thought it was good, again, not great. I'm planning on watching the next two Swedish film adaptations once they hit Netflix Instant Watch (no more paying to go my art house movie theater like I did with Dragon Tattoo when I can see it at home for free.) I've heard Girl Who Played With Fire the movie isn't as good as Dragon Tattoo, but then I've also heard it is. I'll decide for myself.
I'm much more looking forward to the American remakes. With David (Fight Club, The Social Network) Fincher directing The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (and hopefully the rest of the trilogy), and with Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara in the lead roles, it seems like the American versions are going to be great. With that talent involved, I expect the American remakes to actually exceed the vaunted European versions.

| #4 Posted on 27.10.10 2009.42 | Well, I watched The Girl Who Played With Fire (thank you, Netflix Instant Watch!). I liked it more than The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo; it was a much more exciting, almost Jason Bourne-esque thriller, and it didn't make my skin crawl with sick Swedes abusing women like Dragon Tattoo did.

| #5 Posted on 27.10.10 2234.38 | Instant Rating: 1.48 | I've got two copies of DARK STAR on video and two on DVD, this version is much cleaner then any of them. The sound is great as well. This is easily the best possible presentation of this film that is currently available. Definitely get it.
PSYCHOMANIA is a great, creepy little film. It's almost as creepy as CARNIVAL OF SOULS.
However, the more important release this week is HOUSE (HAUSU) which is a freaky, mind fuck of a film. Think of it as a Dr Seuss story with blood, death and nudity. It's a must own DVD, as far as I'm concerned.
Forget it Josh... it's Cerebustown. | John Orquiola

| #6 Posted on 2.11.10 1120.42 | Watched Winter's Bone on Blu-ray. It's great. Bleak, harsh, sad, but great, with an amazing lead performance by Jennifer Lawrence. (She'll be Mystique in X-Men: First Class next year).
