I really don't know what to say about this but...

(from PW Torch.com)

- Vince McMahon was recently pitched an idea for a character based on Dave Chappelle. Vince, initially not knowing who Chappelle was, was impressed when shown some of his comedy.

This is bad news for Shelton Benjamin. He though Chavo had it bad, he's going to have to learn about 'When Keeping in Real goes wrong' and work on his impressions of Lil Jon and Black Gallagher. Although if this leads to a skit of 'If George Bush was Black', I'm all for it.

By the way, Storm's gimmick includes 1.) telling the audience to shut up, and 2.) occasionally making everyone stand for the Canadian national anthem. You know they don't know what to do with a wrestler when he's making fans stand for a national anthem. It's like waving a white flag and saying, "This guy has no personality -- we give up."

Why would this call for a Shelton overhaul? If anyone were to get the makeover, Orlando needs it more. Even if a character was based on Dave Chappelle, it doesn't mean the wrestler would be capable (or legally able) to just ape Chappelle catchphrases.

But if Vince really wants this kind of character, The Human Tornado would be PERFECT for it.

That occurred to me, too, but as much love as I have for Shelty, he is sadly completely incapable of doing a Dave Chappelle gimmick.

It would be awesome if what they had in mind by "Dave Chappelle gimmick" was a guy who wins over the crowd by being really funny and cool, then snaps and runs off to Africa because the pressure got to him while the announcers wonder week after week whether he's coming back at all. What a heel! But that's probably not what they're thinking.

Erm... they already had a wrestler use "WHAT?" as a catchphrase...

Yeah, but the wrestler who did that had enough charisma on the mic to make it work.

Chapelle's stuff works because he understands comedic timing, and is a skilled writer. If you've seen the Aristocrats, you'd know there's a difference between those who can tell a joke, and those who can tell it *well.* That's assuming the joke is even funny in the first place, I don't have a lot of faith in the WWE writers to pull that off. Odds are, they'll just give this to the same guy who writes the stupid Cena/Bischoff exchanges.

Once again, WWE is about a year behind in the "hip gimmick" department.

"I'm Shelton Benjamin BITCH !!!"

I can't wait for someone to show Vince an old tape of Beavis & Butthead. Then the writers can form a new zany tag team that would really bring in the teenage demographic and introduce them to the WWE product.

I don't know what's sadder... the fact that the moronic cheese-surrender typewriter monkeys in WWE creative are so brainless that they're pushing a Dave Chappelle clone instead of, you know, creating something, or the fact that Vince "Senile" McMahon had no clue who Dave Chappelle was.

It's good to see that the WWE isn't backing away from Batista or Cena. There's still some questions lingering over a few of the draft moves they either made or didn't make (Jericho being a prime example), but the stage is set for a solid run to Summerslam that may send the indicator down. The longer Triple H stays away is also a plus...

If by Africa you mean AA, and by announcers you mean Kevin Nash, that would fit Scott Hall towards the end of WCW perfectly.

And a Chappelle gimmick would bomb, it will obviously be written poorly and given to a random black wrestler regardless of whether it fits him.

Having followed nothing on the indy scene, what's the deal with the Human Tornado anyway? I saw a music video compilation of his and he was hilarious and had some good moves..why isn't he getting picked up by at least TNA or ROH? Is it his sloppiness, and/or is he just too new on the scene?

They've already had a Beavis character for years: The King. It makes JR Butthead by association, though it's not as perfect a match.

Use the Diva mentality. Don't get a wrestler to be Dave Chappelle, instead hire Dave Chappelle to be a wrestler!

Imagine the promos - and the uproar - if HHH demonstrates the sledgomatic on a watermelon, all to "get under black galagher's skin"

Maybe they'll reveal Eugene is One Man Gang's long lost son (which would mean OMG is Bischoff's brother in law, thus explaining the unexplainable U.S. Title Reign for the Gang in '95-'96), and Eugene reverts to OMG's Akeem's roots. It would keep Shelton away from this gimmick, and it would give Eugene something to do.

I can imagine Maria asking Shelton a question backstage that he doesn't like, and then Shelton replies to her:

Shelton: "Is Shelton Benjamin gonna have to choke a bitch? I don't want to choke a bitch....I'm, I'm, I'm not violent...I'm not a violent person.....I'm gonna choke a bitch...."

Vince McMahon: "Whoa whoa whoa....Benjamin, calm down man, it's cool man, it's cool."

Benjamin: [takes a deep breath] "You need to thank Mr. McMahon, bitch."

Not a bad idea. The gimmick established that Eugene learned wrestling from watching TV. Why couldn't he have tuned into Chappelle's show? Or any other? Make him a pop-culture machine now that they've moved him away from the wrestling savant machine.

I liked how you worked in OMG's U.S. Title reign. Now that's craftsmanship!

If only the WWE's writers could show such pride in their craft.

Whoever said "Is Shelton Benjamin gonna have to choke a bitch?" is on to something. It could be a new catchphrase. Give him a choke sleeper or Kata-hajime as his new submission finisher, and the comic skits write themselves.

Shelton walks into a random bar, some guy yells, "Oh no, it's Shelton Benjamin!" The scene cuts to the outside of the bar where screams and various sounds associated with ass-whoopin' are heard. Finally, a man is thrown through the front window and lies still. Shelton sticks his head out and yells, "Orangeburg, bitch!" Bring back Road Dogg as his manager/mouthpiece/cheerleader and the fun will last for months!

I wish I could respect the law. I can't. The law is a whore who demands payment up front, and then attempts to evade providing the service paid for.

#2 wins by default, because the idea came from the wrestler who wants to do it.

From 1999-2000, HHH held the title on 4 occassions. None of those reigns lasted 9 months. His first title reign was about 3 weeks. His second 7, third 17, and fourth 5.
