You can read all about it here.

Here's the new logo:

And the divisions are called Legends (UM, MSU, Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, Northwestern) and Leaders (OSU, Wisky, PSU, Indiana, Illinois, Purdue).

Good to see Delany is delegating some of his work to his grandchildren. I could've free-handed a better logo than that.

Legends? Leaders? That just sounds stupid. How does that make them more money or get them more coverage than just saying north/south or east/west?

This must be a joke. The logo is amateurish at best and the division names sound like they come from a TNA feud scripted by Vince Russo.

Neither can I, but I see a (superfluous?) "1" in the word "BIG", and if you combine it with the "G" (which looks a little like a "0" to me) it almost looks like they stuck a hidden "10" in there. If you're a nerd like I am, you'll know that "10" in base-2 is actually 2. Add that 2 to the "TEN" below and you get 12. HOORAY!

I need to stop staring at this thing like it's a Magic Eye or something.

All the rage in the world is not enough to properly hate this, and all the ridiculousness in the world is not enough to properly mock this joke.

I mean, what the hell can you say? This is pathetic. It's like they hired kindergardeners to come up with the names and high school graphic artists to think up the logo. The administration and front office of the Big 10 are jokes. Jokes. I had cautious optimism with this expansion thing, because the idea was right but the Big 10 always screws something up. And just as I predicted, one step forward and two back while the Pac 10 yet again houses us with professional divisions and an actual friggin' logo that works.

And hell, it doesn't even stop at just the logo and divisions! The Big 10 came up with all new Official Big 10 Trophy Names (bigten.org) for the championship game and other awards. But look at them! All they did was pull two last names out of a hat and stick them together. For every single trophy. So next year, Shoelace'll be winning the Griese-Brees Trophy. You read that right, and that's not even one of the more jokey ones!

Just pathetic. The Big 10 administration is such an embarrassment.

Also of note, the 'G' looks an awful lot like a '6'.

I imagine the SEC hasn't stopped laughing yet. What a joke. An awful, awful joke.

This must be why, in the Philly Comcast market, I now have a channel called Big 10 HD. It's the beginning of making us care about colleges that are nowhere near me.

Meanwhile, I still can't get HDNet, even though they were supposed to add it. Thanks Big Ten/Comcast.

To be fair, you've got Penn State to blame for that.

To my eyes, the 'G' looks like a 6. How ominous.

"And if you commit to (insert Big 10 school name here), you'll be a part of the Big 10, the division of Leaders and Legends."

Yeah, it's a sales pitch to get better players to compete with the strong SEC, rising PAC-10, and ACC. Why go to school where the weather is always warm, or is near an ocean and coastal beaches are half day's drive away, where your odds of going into the NFL/NBA are just as strong if not stronger and the educational programs are just as noteworthy when you can go somewhere in the midwest? Leaders and legends. Weak sauce, but I like to theorize...

Freezing/Humid would've been more accurate.

The names on the trophy's aren't that big of a deal, even if they aren't all posthumously named.

Strange that NU and Illinois ended up in different divisions. It's our traditional rivalry--does that mean we won't be playing all that often? I'm thinking it would have made more sense to put us in the East (sorry: "Leaders") and put Wisconsin in the West/Legends.

And yeah, that logo is ghastly.

They'll probably play every year. You know Mich. and OSU are going to.

They will. Guaranteed annual cross-division games are: Illinois-Northwestern, Indiana-Michigan State, Ohio State-Michigan, Penn State-Nebraska, Purdue-Iowa and Wisconsin-Minnesota.

Well, perhaps public outcry might force them not to go with these 'brilliant' names.
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=5930029

Personally, if they do change, Jim and Delaney would be great names, or at least one person would think so. Personally, I say name the Divisions Eleven and Twelve.
