Well, here's a graphic from WWE.com. Let's assume it's these eight guys for now:

From left: Chris Jericho, Umaga, Shawn Michaels, CM Punk, Batista, Big Show, Triple H, MVP

Give me:

Your bracket

Your seven match results

I'm wondering if they're already paired off up there. I wouldn't expect to see Michaels/Punk, but I *can* see the other three (especially the Jericho/Umaga rematch) so I wouldn't be too shocked if that was the opening graphic.

MY prediction:

It will bomb in the ratings, but you and I will think it was a fun three hours.

Going with those pairings:

Umaga over Jericho
Punk over HBK after Batista interference
Show over Batista when HBK returns the favor
HHH over MVP

Punk over Umaga (But I really can't think of how right now.)
Show over HHH by DQ

Show beats Punk to become King of the Ring after a decent David and Goliath match.

My other prediction: Show does not adopt a goofy king gimmick like Booker did.

I dunno. You would think Khali would do something to make sure Show doesn't become King of the Ring right before their match at Backlash.

It's a tough one to call but I'm going to go by the graphic:

RD. 1

Jericho over Umaga
CM Punk over HBK
Big Show over Batista
HHH over MVP (obviously :D)

RD. 2

CM Punk over Jericho
HHH over Big Show (interference from Khali)

KOTR Final

Calling it: CM Punk vs. HHH (you know you want it to happen!). HHH wins and becomes the first ever two time King of The Ring winner.

Jericho over Umaga
HBK over Punk
Batista over Big Show
HHH over MVP

Jericho over HBK (either Batisterference or Y2J foot on ropes for leverage)
Batista over HHH

Jericho over Batista (thus giving Y2J an argument for making it a 3-way at Backlash since he beat both in one night)

Of course, that's assuming they're paired off according to the graphic.

If they'll play that cool Motorhead song, I want Triple H to win ...

"Bow down to the ... bow down to the king ..."

Jericho over HBK
CM Punk over MVP
Batista over Big Show
Triple H over Umaga

Punk over Jericho
Triple H over Batista

Triple H - the King of Kings of the Ring ...

Of interest, from Raw's preview for next week, it says the following:

A King of the Ring Tournament victory would do just that.

Also, in another article they mention

And prowrestling.net says:

I'm going to say Kennedy wins, and we end up with a feud over the summer of Kennedy's crown vs. Punk's briefcase, culminating in Kennedy getting the case and going for the title in the fall.

First:
Batista beats Jericho
Umaga beats CM Punk
Big Show beats MVP
Triple H beats Shawn Michaels

Then:
Batista beats Umaga
Triple H beats Big Show

KOTR: Batista beats Triple H, takes King gimmick back to SD.

What REALLY pisses me off is that this show is in Greenville, and I didn't get tickets. Had I known it was
a) a three-hour RAW, and
b) King of the Ring
I would have bought good seats.

I'm going to say that the King of the Ring will consist of the Money in the Bank players minus Jericho and Carlito and adding Festus, Matt Hardy, and Finley.

Festus d. John Morrison
MVP d. Finley
Matt Hardy d. Shelton Benjamin
Mr. Kennedy d. CM Punk

MVP d. Festus
Hardy d. Kennedy

MVP d. Hardy (setting up rubber match for US title)

That's some TV Gold waiting to happen.

Jericho wins, beating both HBK and Batista along the way to justify his spot.

This is a good chance for Jericho to go full on heel, but it's also a good chance to make The Big Show look like a badass by plowing through all the compition.

I think Umaga and Big Show end double DQ'ing each other. Triple H is the King of Kings, but loses to Batista from interference from Orton or JBL.

I haven't been able to figure out how HBK gets eliminated, but Jericho gets a bye from the double DQ and faces Batista. Jericho wins when HBK interference backfires and costs Batista the crown.

Jericho is your '08 King of the Ring!

If he suddenly starts speaking in a British accent like Booker did, that will be the best thing ever.

Do we even know for sure if this will be an eight-man bracket? It could be 16 men with some short matches (i.e. with Batista, Show, Jericho, Triple H) due to outside interference.

Based on CRZ's projections....

Umaga over HHH thanks to Orton or JBL interfering
Jericho over Batista thanks to HBK-ference
Punk over HBK due to Batista and/or Jericho interfering
Show over MVP

Umaga over Jericho, who's either going into the match hurting or else there's more interference
Show over Punk

Show over Umaga to win the crown

How is it that I am a good actor? What I do is I... pretend to be the person Im portraying. Youre confused. Case in point: in Lord of the Rings, Peter Jackson comes to me and says I would like you to be Gandalf the Wizard, and I said You are aware that I am not really a wizard? and Peter Jackson said I would like you to use your acting skills to portray a wizard for the duration of the show. So I said Okay and then I said to myself Mmm.. How do I do that? And this is what I did: I imagined that I was a wizard, and then I pretended, and acted, in that way on the stage. How did I know what to say? The words were written down for me in a script. How did I know where to stand? People told me where to stand." -- Sir Ian McKellen, Extras

16 would be VERY hard, even with the extra hour. You're talking potentially 15 matches minus any bullshit DDQ/DCOR finishes.

Maybe have 12 people, give the participants of the Fatal 4-Way first round byes? That'd be 11 matches - doable, but they always want to have extra stuff betweeen rounds (tag match, Divas match) so I still think they'll go with eight.

Tonight's KOR ad during ECW showed a baffling SEVENTEEN superstars - let's assume at least eight of these:

Triple H
CM Punk
Matt Hardy
Shawn Michaels
Kane
Finlay
Big Show
MVP
Edge
Chris Jericho
Batista
John Cena
Undertaker
Umaga
JBL
John Morrison
Randy Orton

Two questions:

1. John Morrison?
2. Yeah, how COME Mr. Kennedy's never on TV anymore?

If Edge or Jericho were to win, could we get the return of the KOTR Stanley Cup-like trophy?

Looking back at the King of the Ring (since it started airing on televsion), they've almost always used it to boost an up-and-comer, the one exception being Booker T winning it last year. (Okay, so one COULD argue against Mabel/Viscera/Big Daddy V, but from Vince's perspective, I'm sure he was an up-and-coming star.)

From that perspective, I'm going to have to assume that the graphic is simply for hype and not necessarily the actual brackets. If this is the case, I'd have to go with Shelton Benjamin over either Matt Hardy or MVP. (Though I'll join Vince's special club if they were to give it to Matt Hardy.)

If one were to go by the pairings in the graphic, I'd have to go with MVP over Jericho, after they beat HBK and Batista due to those two interfering in each other's matches.

Looking back at past tournaments, once again, only 4 of the 11 men who won King of the Ring (during the TV era) didn't go on to become world champion: Owen Hart, Ken Shamrock, Mabel and Billy Gunn, and one could make a case that Owen might have become champion if it weren't for his death. If my memory serves me correctly, Bret Hart is the only person to have won the King of the Ring AFTER having become world champion. (He's also the only person to have ever won the tournament twice, though the first was prior to the event being televised.)

So, that leads to 1 of 3 possible conclusions...

1) Someone gets elevated to the next level, either MVP or Shelton, most likely, I'll go with Shelton because he's been around longer and doesn't have a title.

2) HHH wins en route to becoming the only 3 time King of the Ring.

3) Following whatever logic that lead to Mabel/Big Daddy V becoming KotR, Umaga wins. (Very little of the disrespect that could be implied here actually intended to be directed toward Umaga.)

That, of course, brings up the point that the WWE pays very little attention to it's own canon, so I'll go with Shawn Michaels to win, since that makes the least since of everyone in the graphic.

(Also, I'm happy to see that my memory was faulty about one thing. I was thinking that Mabel had actually won the world title at one point. It's not very often that I'm quite happy to have been mistaken.)

(On a random note, Jerry Saggs once made it to the semi-finals of the King of the Ring. WTF?)

They were able to do it for the DEADLY GAME tournament of Survivor Series 1998 fame. Sure, Undertaker and Kane had byes, but that show also had a tag title match and a women's title match. And they could replicate Bossman's quick loss with ANOTHER quick Chavo loss! Or something.

I feel slightly confident that one of the matches at Backlash will be a rematch of the tournament final (or maybe even the tournament final itself after a some bait and switch angle on Monday).

So, based on the original graphic of 8, your final is Punk vs Umaga (with Umaga winning).

Based on last night's commercial, the final will involve two of: Punk, Umaga, Morrison and Finlay.
