Bottom line is NJ was scared away by Shareef's bad wheel. That kinda sucks, IMO, b/c a starting lineup of Kidd, Carter, Jefferson, Shareef and Krstic would've made noise in the East.

To kinda make up for it, NJ basically bought Marc Jackson from Philly (traded for $$).

The team that signed Alonzo Mourning with his injury history won't take Shareef because of an injury that hasn't impacted him in over a dozen years? By default, they'll win the Atlantic, just because league rules state someone has to win the division. However, any chance they had of being a dangerous team (which, with 20-10 possibilities inside from Shareef they were) in the East are gone. The goal for whoever doesn't win the Central is to actually drop far enough to be the #6 seed.

What sort of injury makes the Nets think that they'd get the same value out of Jackson? I hope he had a leg amputation that no one knew about.

A guy who's going into his 10th year in the league and has never been on a winning team in his pro career would've made them dangerous? Truthfully, they most likely would've won the Atlantic with him and are probably still the only Atlantic team that you can safely say will make the playoffs next year (along with safely saying the Raptors will finish last in the Atlantic), even without Reef. This is conditional though on Kidd's knees holding up and/or Vince turning back into a chick again.

Shareef is going to Sacto.

If he has a breakout year, shame shame SHAME on Jersey.

That ought to get him into the playoffs, finally.

Hollinger's point in the article, though, is that teams that do consistently bad don't really count as cursed. Boston was long considered the most cursed team in Major League Baseball, despite having out-performed many other teams in recent years.
