It's about time.

Netflix Streaming Coming to Sony PlayStation 3

Apparently, Netflix will send PS3 owners a Blue-Ray disk that will allow them to connect to the Netflix website. You have to reserve your disk ahead of time at http://www.netflix.com/ps3 (netflix.com)

I'm... not sure why they couldn't just make an application. It's sounds like that's exactly what the disk does - so why it has to be on a disk and not in the PS3 store is a bit confusing to me.

Still, it's a step in the right direction.

It's been nice to have at times on the 360, but the bad thing is they just don't offer a big enough selection for streaming. I went into it thinking anything you could rent from them would be on there, but that's not even close to the case.

Hopefully that changes in time, would make it way more worthwhile.

I would bet that they signed something when they set up with MS that precludes them from selling an application online that will do this. The disk sure sounds like a loophole to me.

From the article, it sounds like that they want to limit access to the app to netflix users only. Like a game, you need the disc in the drive to access the movies.

With any DLC on the PS3, you can share them between accounts if you give your name/password combo to your friends. All you have to do create your friend's account on your PS3, log in as them on the store, and re-download all their stuff. Rumor has it that you're limited to 5 re-downloads or so. Most of my friends do that, especially with the Rock Band songs to save money.

Hear hear ... I originally signed up for a NetFlix account so that I could stream movies through my Xbox 360, but (aside from catching up with past seasons of "Lost") I've since changed my strategy to renting Blu-Ray discs for my PS3.

If this disc stuff is true, I guess there won't be a need to alter that strategy ...

Somehow I didn't know this. Interesting.

FWIW, an interview with Joystiq says that they're have a non-disc app in late 2010. Even before then - with NetFlix now available on both, have we reached the point where the PS3 is a better deal than the 360? Or does 360's library still make it the better choice for someone who's starting out fresh?

Probably more of a toss up than it was. Live is still the better service, and there are more games and more people on it, but the PS3 is finally getting better.

If I cared about Blu Ray I'd probably get a PS3.

As a sad Canadian, I can't get Netflix on either system. So, boo to that.

As far as gaming systems go, I far prefer the 360. The menu system is more intuitive (not intuitive, just MORE intuitive), the online experience is smoother, the game selection is a bit better, you can get trial versions of ALL of the downloadable games, the controller fits better in my hand, etc.

I find the PS3's big advantages are the Blu-Ray capabilities and the aligned analog sticks and the better d-pad on the controller. But that doesn't change the fact that I can't trial most of the downloadable games, and the PS3 games I play most often are Downloading Patches, Downloading System Updates, and Installing Things When You Thought You Were Done With This Nonsense. I am also a big fan of Time To Plug In Your Controller And Go Do Something Else For A While Because You Thought It Had A Charge But It Does Not.

On GameStop they are showing a June 2014 release date for WatchDogs now. Of course, that's the game we picked with our PS4 bundle.
