Gamefly needs competition because their turnaround time is about 5-7 days. My roommate and I have a 3 game plan so we can have at least one game in the house while others are in transit.

This is why I have to love RedBox. I did not know that they rented out games, and now I am playing Dead Island for 2 bucks a day. So it becomes close to Blockbuster's old 9 dollars for 5 days deal. But good on Qwikster to rent out games.

The problem with the Netflix model is if they make money, the movie producers are going to want more of a cut, thus they raise their fees to Netflix, then Netflix has to raise their fees to you. Then they repeat the process........

Netflix scraps the whole Qwikster idea. (blog.netflix.com)

Another desperate bid at damage control, though at least this is a correct move. Though the damage to their reputation is done.

Has any company fucked up this much since New Coke?

Let's see - New Coke was mid-80s?

in 1993, Apple Discontinued the IIe, in 94-97, crap like Performa, the Newton and Centras and Quadra, and had John Sulley as CEO and had fired Steve Jobs.

They seems to have made a comeback.

Coke too.

I lost a lot of interest in redbox when i rwalized they only the stripped down rental version of a disc.

I rented a disc that had no commentary or even subtitles on it.

You were disappointed that a rental company gave you a rental disc?

If Netflix can swing some good licenses for the streaming service, everyone will forget about this whole thing.

This makes their earlier decision seem even stupider. If separating the two components made business sense, then by all means stick to your guns. But now that they've switched back, it appears they didn't have a good reason for it, and they didn't seem to think about what consumers would think of the change.

Qwikster was a dumb idea, squashing it now was the best move Netflix has made in a long time.

I have actually found myself missing the old video stores lately.

Wow, I wasn't exactly expecting that. This looks pretty cool. I've never heard of this character before, but it seems like one that Depp will make his own like he usually does.
