Never? We get at least one a month. When did you join, last week? If not, take that luck to Vegas, man!

Yeah, I just watched the entire series of The Wire through the mail. On three occasions I had to send discs back, including the series finale disc. I was a little salty.

Yeah yeah, of course there's some good stuff available for streaming (that's how we caught up with "Lost" before the final season) ... but a lot of the stuff that we REALLY wanna watch has been Blu-Ray only. And that's annoying.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that streaming in standard definition doesn't cut it ...

Maybe it's just my imagination, but I would swear that Netflix is pulling things out of their "watch instantly" catalog. Maybe that's just something they do periodically. But I have 4 things that were in my Instant Queue, which have magically moved over to a separate "Saved Instant" list, & they now all say "DVD only".

This does happen occasionally and the reason for that is licensing issues. Once licenses expire, certain content can no longer be streamed until the license is renewed. Hence, why certain content (Showtime properties come to mind) can suddenly be pulled without much warning.

For the most part, Netflix is pretty good about keeping up with licenses, but just to be safe, enjoy what you have now.

This site

http://instantwatcher.com/

shows what is new and is about to expire. I queue almost everything from this site. I find it the best interface to netflix streaming

So I don't get to get all conspiracy theory -ish about the whole thing, eh? :-) Thanks for the info! Does put a damper on my strategy of queueing up a bunch all at once, then watching at my leisure.

I spent a little time on that site last night and I must admit, first impressions - I didn't dig it. It mixes DVD and streaming and I have no interest in the DVD part of netflix. Plus, I didn't see an easy way to find new streaming titles and ones about to expire.

After reading this I went back and checked it out more thoroughly. I have to say, you have a point. I tend to browse more than look for anything in particular.

No, it's in there. In fact I think it's even more useful to me than the other site for finding instant watch expiration dates because it shows which items you've already queued are about to expire (so that you can hurry up and watch them!).

Once you've linked it up with your Netflix account, go to your FeedFliks home page. You'll see a section titled "Maximize your Membership." In that section there should be a link to your Instant Queue. Click on that link. That'll take you to a page showing you every item in your Instant Queue, and under each item it'll tell you how long it'll be available to watch instantly.

So, in summary:
1. Connect FeedFliks to your Netflix account.
2. Go to your home page.
3. Click the link to view your Instant Queue.

That's it!

I just wish Netflix Canada has as good a selection as the Americans, but oh well. I still got to watch The Tudors on Netflix

So Starz is thumbing their nose at $300M+, because God forbid people turn to Netflix instead of subscribing to Starz...even though Starz would be compensated well over $300M.

Seriously, screw these people. I hope they get what's coming to them.

Netflix is getting hit on all sides - from the ISPs to the content providers. Part of the reason I keep my subscription (albeit the streaming only plan) is because I'm fairly certain their are some studios that would like to see them go out of business - they're not too fond of this third party having such an impact on the industry.

I know the article is a little old...

It totally feels like they are getting strong armed out of the business. When Netflix was really rolling it was the greatest thing ever. I didn't have to go to a video store, and I hate ordering movies through the cable since my cable bill is already out of control as it is.

DVD/Blu Ray sales are never going to go back up and each production company having their own service sounds like the least convenient thing ever.

Crushing Netflix will probably just lead to more pirating.

The other shoe has dropped. Netflix is spinning off the DVD business into a new company called Qwikster, while retaining the Netflix name for streaming. Current customers of both services will find themselves with two accounts on two separate websites and making two separate payments. This seems like a colossal failure in user experience.

(Although I'm the first to admit I'm only an amateur UX specialist, I know a lot of UX folks and have to live it every day trying to help people find answers on my employer's website.)

The CEO is trying his own spin control, which is admirable, but aside from a few kissasses I don't think he's exactly winning over a whole lot of hearts and minds: http://blog.netflix.com/2011/09/explanation-and-some-reflections.html

So, is this going to be good for the DVD side since Hollywood hates the streaming, or is this just a way to slowly kill it off because of the expense.?

I can't imagine streaming going away. That is too big of a business for them and someone else would find a way to do it using the same means they do. It wouldn't shock me to see it go to $15 a month from the $8. I would have to consider dropping it at that point.

The only good thing to come out of this is Netflix-- er, Qwikster... offering video game rentals. It's about time.

Reading some of the comments on the CEO's blog post is cringe inducing. You can see that for a very short time he tried to respond to some of the feedback to his announcement. Boy was THAT ever a losing battle.
