About a year ago, I caught them playing "Rock Star" on Letterman. It was pretty kickass- lots of big guitars and rock. Lately, I've tried to download the song at Kazaa, but it seems different- the guitars are replaced by beats. Is that the deal with the version on the album? It was good but I missed the guitar sound.
If it's not a remix it's a unreleased copy. I worked at a college radio station and read in some music news mag that said they originaly recorded the album without a band. The record company didn't like it and asked them to rerecord with a group of musicians.
The original version was all synthesizers and crap. The new version (the one that I own) has all live instruments, and it kicks butt!!! Everyone should go out and get it. It is the feel good album of the century! I can't wait until they release more music as NERD. I love it, because the Neptunes are so rich and powerful that they can do whatever the heck they please, and it will still garner critical acclaim.

Quiet Riot was supposed to play here in town on the 19th of December, and I was just mulling the idea on Sunday evening of going to see them. Alas. I still have their performance of Cum on Feel the Noize on Solid Gold's "Best of '83" Countdown....
