Now I have always been a playoff guy, but the NCAA seems to be set on making sure that there is never going to be a playoff in college football. I understand that, I mean the cities get tourism dollars flowing in and they should at least make money off the television revenues. But with schools sometimes losing money to go to these games, is there a way that the NCAA can fix the bcs so that there is less controversy and teams can minimize the losses they take by going to the whatever.com bowl they go to?

No. BCS will always be subjective, so there will always be conterversy. Quite frankly, since there will be no playoff, I would like to for them to restore the original system and traditions. SEC team always going to the Sugar Bowl, Rose Bowl always Pac 10-Big 10 champs, etc., with most other bowls being the free-for-all it use to be. With the current system, certain teams show up at the same bowl year after year too often. For example, Tennessee and Michigan had big time trouble selling tickets to the Citrus Bowl because each of them had been there about three times in the last six years. People won't spend money to go to the same place over and over. You got more variety when bowls didn't have the conference tie-ins. (But like the playoff, this won't ever happen either, as probably most people don't want it to, as they are convinced that the BCS is the next best thing to a playoff, though I don't really agree)

with the current system of 28 bowl games being the "Post season", 56 of the 117 schools make the "post season."

edit:typo'ed the # of bowl games, but got the # of teams right...go figure...

Not to be overly optimistic, but the latest stuff I've heard is that the major conference commissioners seem to be in agreement on a playoff when the BCS contract ends. Granted there's still a lot of steps to go, such as convincing school presidents and the like, but it's not as far-fetched as it once was. The thing I love is how hypocritical the whole "lose classroom time" argument is when Ohio State will play 14 games this year. If they played a 10 game season and then had a 16 team playoff over the month of December, culminating on January 1st, 2 teams would play 14 games and they'd still be done at the exact same time. It's all about money, but sooner or later, D1-A playoffs will exist, in some format.

Seems to me the if the NCAA knew what they were doing they would turn the Bowl games into playoff games. I think it was NCAA 200 or 99 that had an elaborate playoff post season you could pick that had a playoff systems that included every Bowl game. If the NCAA did something like that the bowls would not lose any money or TV time.

23 times 2 is 46, actually. Unless there are 28 bowl games.

Because after all, we all need a Humanitarian Bowl to be played in Idaho in the middle of the fucking winter.

Wait, Clemson won that last year...forget I said anything.

But the field was fricking blue. Blue! You'd think they'd at least find some turf somewhere that's the right color.

But there do seem to be too many games, if it weren't for the fact that they seem to make a good bit of money.

Yeah the Humanitarian Bowl has got to be the weakest. WTF does Idaho have to do with humanity? Couldn't it be the Potato Bowl or something like that?
But I feel no 6-5 or 7-4 team should be in a bowl game. The playoff scheme looks a lot better than the subjective BCS system. Take 10 division winners as long as they have a minimum amount of wins. Then there is 6 spots for independent teams (who should join a division) and for really good runner up teams or winners of weak divisions.
Let the better teams host the first round as a payment and to insure sellout games. The next 3 games could be decided in advance to make up for the lost bowl games.

The Humanitarian Bowl the weakest? Nah. How about the Queen City Bowl (which isn't even in the true Queen City), Houston Bowl, Hawaii Bowl, Insight.com Bowl, Seattle Bowl, and Tangerine Bowl (why does Orlando get 2 bowl games when they can't even sell out the Citrus Bowl?).

I remember a few years ago my all time favorite bowl game took place: The Poulan Weedeater Bowl. Thats classic. So was last years Galleryfurniture.com Bowl. If I was an AD and ever got asked to play in Bowl with a .com name I would so decline. Naturally I would be fired soon after, but I wouldn't put my school in the ChristopherLowell.com Bowl.

I didn't mean weakest game or teams for the Humanitarian Bowl. But the name makes no sense what so ever. If it was the Militia Bowl or the Potato Bowl then that makes sense. But when I think of Idaho I don't think of Ghandi, MLK, or Mother Theresa. I think of potatoes and the Aryan Brotherhood.
