As a huge college basketball fan, this has been a great year for me. The field to win it all is completely up for grabs, with some unranked teams having a chance to win it all. Having said that, I'm making some early Final Four Predictions. Feel free to make fun of em.

Final Four:
Pitt
Georgia
Mississippi State
Texas

Texas won't make the Final Four because Rick Barnes can't coach his way out of a paper bag and will cost his team in a big spot.
Pitt looks like a team that will fall into a trap in the Second Round, as their inability to hit free throws is due to catch up with them. When your point guard shoots 40% from the line, your not going to win in March.

It's really far too early to pick, but I don't think anyone would be going out on a limb picking Arizona. For my money they are by far the best team out there.

All the other conferences that usually have a team right there, ACC, SEC, Big 12 are really hard to call right now. There are many possiblities, which should make this another fabulous season...

I like your inclusion of two SEC teams, but I think Florida and Kentucky have better shots at getting there than MooU and UGA as of right now. But if there is a "dark horse" team in the SEC, I do think it's UGA.

Don't jinx the 'Cats, please Chuck.

While it is still to early to predict Final 4 (I think brackets and match-ups are way too important there), I do think that Arizona has to be a favorite.

Duke usually receives favorable seeding, so the path will be friendly for them if they are playing well, if not, maybe Maryland or possibly North Carolina IF the frosh turn to sophs in March.

Florida/UK/Georgia do seem most likely to represent the SEC, but again seedings and tourney match-ups will likely be the deciding factor.

Kansas or Oklahoma would also be a good call.

So I guess, I'm predicing by conference for the Final 4 (and yes, I do realize that isn't the way it "really" works):

Pac 10
SEC
Big 12
ACC

I agree that it is difficult to say who exactly is going to make it. There are probably close to 2 dozen teams who could legitimately say they have a good shot of going.

But, since we need four...

Arizona
Maryland
Duke
Creighton

Let's not forget Florida, Kentucky, and Louisville along with my darkhorse, NC State.

Now I know it sounds like going out on a limb with Creighton, but Kyle Korver is the kind of player who can dominate a game wth his scoring and rebounding. When you run into that kind of player in the tournament, all he needs to do is get hot at the right time and the Bluejays could go the distance.

I still think this is the year a mid-major makes the Final Four. Creigthon, Butler and (still)Gonzaga could make runs, even if Gonzaga is not playing as well as they have in recent years.

"Present day writers, especially of the Socilaist school of thought- base their various theories upon one common hypothesis: They divide mankind into two parts. People in general- with the exception of the writer himself- from the first group. The writer, all alone, forms the second and most impportant group. Surely ths is the weirderst and most conceited notion that ever entered a human brain!"

I've said it before, I will say it again.

There is no way Texas is going anywhere major until they prove they can consistently win the big game. Heck, that holds true for football, too.

I'm going to say:

Duke
'Zona
Florida
Maryland

Now, if you want to have some fun, try and nail the Sweet 16 (or Elite Eight).

I am not going to speculate on #1 seeds but this year may see the Atlantic 10 send 4 or 5 teams to the big dance. St. Joseph's (RPI#23), Xavier (RPI#29), and Dayton (RPI#19) are locks at this stage, with Richmond (48) and Rhode Island (88, must win the tournament) bubble teams.

Rhody making the Tourney would be something out of my worst nightmares. If must win the tourney is a qualifier, then Temple should be listed, because if any team could win 4 straight nights, Cheney can find a way to do it. Richmond needs Stanford to do well, so their win out west will look good to the tourney committee. Barring upsets in the conference tourney though, its more likely three get in, and Richmond is a team that will need the chalk to run the table conference tourney week to get in off the bubble.

St. Joe's losing to GW last night(my grad school alma mater) didn't help their at-large cause...

Americans are a resolute people who have risen to every test of our time. Adversity has revealed the character of our country, to the world and to ourselves. America is a strong nation, and honorable in the use of our strength. We exercise power without conquest, and we sacrifice for the liberty of strangers. Americans are a free people, who know that freedom is the right of every person and the future of every nation. The liberty we prize is not America's gift to the world, it is God's gift to humanity.
