It's going to be a very different looking NBC in the fall. The Office will be gone, Community's future is in doubt, and now NBC has cannceled Whitney and 1600 Penn. (tvline.com) And the brief blurb says more axings to come.

We wish Whitney and 1600 Penn well in their future endeavors.

But good news! Parks and Rec is safe.

I thought this was Park and Rec's last season. I kind of wish it was their last season.

Whitney's one of those shows that should have been axed after about five weeks, but it turned into a case of NBC having absolutely nothing else up their sleeve, so it wound up getting a second terrible season.

I thought it was already known that Community would be done-zo after this season. I'm just a super cynical fatalist? Please??

Basically, NBC had no interest in renewing the show, but going into next season, there's been some talk that NBC might renew it just because a television station actually needs, you know, programming, and they have precious little else to put on the air. So far it's just loose talk and there haven't been any real serious mentions of a renewal, but it's more of a possibility than anyone would have thought.

The only genuine hit NBC has is "The Voice". "Grimm" and "Revolution" probably only do the numbers they do because they're on right after "The Voice". Even "Law & Order: SVU" was a fourth place finisher this week.

I hear that "Hannibal" is great, but haven't watched it, and I'm certainly not alone...it only got a 1.1 18-49 rating last night. It would be interesting to see what it would do if they moved it to a "Voice" night.

I think it's gotten to the point with NBC that, even if they come up with something good, it's hard to convince viewers to so much as TRY watching them.

When NOTHING is drawing, NBC might as well keep their few shows that actually have legitimate fanbases and critical support (Parks & Rec, Community) since that's better than introducing more new shows that probably won't grab an audience at all.

Could NBC shoot for an all sci-fi/fanboy night of Community at 8, some new sitcom at 8:30, Revolution at 9, Grimm at 10? Or a night of just Revolution/Grimm/Hannibal?

Rock Center didn't do too bad for a fast replacement when some show died a quick death.

Leno, maybe?

I'm not sure I -ever- want there to be a last season. Parks and Rec is the best comedy on TV by about a million miles.

It's a pretty sad state of affairs when a painfully unfunny "sitcom" like Community can stay yet an genuinely good show like Go On or The New Normal gets cancelled.

I think we've solved the mystery of why NBC is doing so poorly.

NBC fall schedule announced. (insidetv.ew.com)

Lots of movement.

Revolution to Wednesdays at 8pm.
Parks and Rec to Thursdays at 8pm to kick off a new Thursday night comedy block.
Chicago Fire to Tuesdays at 10pm.
Parenthood to Thursdays at 10pm.

Notes that new show Dracula is going to Fridays at 10pm.
Community will be a mid-season replacement again, only this time they will know they're mid-season and not get their 13 episodes bumped to February so that their Thanksgiving and Christmas episodes air in March and April. (Or maybe they will regardless since their show takes place during a school year.)

Also, (though this might deserve its own thread) Seth Meyers has been named as the new host for Late Night, taking over for Jimmy Fallon when Fallon takes over The Tonight Show for Jay Leno.

By turning their nose up at all that overwhelming Goon and New Normal buzz. :(

If WWE, the same company that proudly pimped "See No Evil" and "12 Rounds", is drawing the line and pretending this film doesn't exist, it HAS to be a new level of terrible.
