The NBA Board of Governors have approved the new 6 Division Realignment that will take place when the Charlotte Bobcats join the league. Click Here (sports.espn.go.com)
New Orleans moves to the Southwest Division of the Western Conference and Minnesota looks like it gets hosed with the most divisional travel - another built in excuse for why they can't make it past the first round of the playoffs......

Under the new plan, teams will play divisional opponents four times each, conference opponents outside the division three or four times and opponents outside the conference twice each. 4 Divisional opponents = 16 Games 10 Non Divisional Conference opponents = 36 games (6x4 & 4x3) 15 Non Conference opponents = 30 games Total 82 Games Why not make it 4 games for ALL the teams in the conference for an 86 game season? Or even 3 each for a 76 game season? Why is 82 the magic number?

So changing the number and allignment of teams and just about every rule/rule interpretation you can think of has no effect on the records? That and the fact it only became an 82 game schedule in 67-68.

Obviously there is some cause and effect there, but the number of games is the ONE thing that never seems to change. If the NBA changed to a, say 90-game schedule, over a 15-year career a player would play 120 more games with a longer schedule or about a season-and-a-half. That would significantly impact career records.
I wasn't saying it was right or wrong, I was just pointing it out.

I'd say it breaks down like this: at the beginning of the season, everybody has 82 games to play, to set whatever records they want to set. They'll always play 82 games, unless the number of games changes. This is what caused the whole stir in '61 when Maris broke Ruth's HR record; that was the season where they changed from 154 games to 162.
The proposed Southeast division is going to be the NBA's answer to the AFC Central.
Let's put this in the plainest terms possible: Darryl Strawberry has no business instructing anybody about anything. He has never done a thing in his life to warrant a position of guidance. Not on the field. Not off the field.-- David Vescey, si.com
