So, the Pistons just agreed to deals with Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva Click Here (msn.foxsports.com). The two former UConn stars make the Pistons a lot younger (26 & 24 years old) ... but aren't Rip Hamilton and Tayshaun Prince still on that team? Unless the Pistons have more moves planned one is going to have to wonder if Joe Dumars took up fellow teammate's Isiah Thomas's blueprint on how to overload a team with SGs and SFs.
Speaking of Isiah, two former Knicks were traded for each other as the Clippers shed perennial knucklehead Zach Randolph for a fairly solid guy off the bench in Quentin Richardson Click Here (sports.espn.go.com) Smartest move the Clippers have made in some time. As much as Zach brings with his rebounding and putbacks, he takes twice that away with his no defense playing, his poor passing and his imaturity.
After awhile you have to wonder why a guy like Z-Bo is never wanted by good NBA teams. LA, NY and Portland all gave the guy away for nothing in return. Funny how Z-Bo got the boot when the Blazers brought in a young Oden and now the same thing happens with Griffin. I wouldn't want his stank rubbing off on my new young players either.
Edit: Can somebody throw the NBA logo on this thread for me?
You knew going into this offseason that only an idiot would relieve the Clippers of Zach Randolph and all of his baggage and character issues. Not to mention that obscene contract.
God bless you, Chris Wallace!

Dumping Randolph and freeing up cap room for 2010? Does this move the post-Elgin Clippers out of the 1 hole and move Memphis up to #1 for worst run organization? To be fair, Randolph will post his customary 19/9/55 losses. Is Jim Calhoun the front runner for the Pistons coaching job?

The Grizz are sure making a push for the #1 slot, especially when you consider this is why they traded away Pau Gasol in the first place.

Depends on what the Clippers follow up this move with. If they use the money they just freed up to sign Trevor Ariza to a max deal, they've clearly learned nothing.

ESPNews is reporting (no link, just from flicking channels) that Ariza has verbally committed to the Rockets, essentially an Artest for Ariza trade. Thus, the Clippers won't make the mistake of giving out the worst contract in organized sports history, at least in this instance.

I dont know, how can LA be stopped next year if they get Artest? It eliminates one of the toughest match-ups for Kobe while giving LA a bona-fide all star talent for next to nothing. Artest is a perfect fit for this Lakers team, and will eb the rough equivalent of Denis Rodman joining the Bulls. We all know how that turned out for the rest of the league. Before Artest, the Lakers were a good but beatable team. With Artest they are truly elite, and I don't see a team right now that can beat them. Wow!
I don't know if Artest is really that big an upgrade over Ariza. A lot of people like to compare Artest to Rodman joining the Bulls, but the big difference is that Artest is going to want offensive touches. I'm more curious as to whether Houston upgraded with the switch or not. I don't think we know enough about Ariza yet.
Also Hedo did the old bait and switch and decided to pull out of going to Portland and will now end up in Toronto Click Here (sports.espn.go.com). Hedo in Toronto seems like a better fit to me, but maybe it's because they've been the closest thing to an all Euro team we've had for years now. Chris Bosh leaving doesn't seem so automatic anymore.

I don't think the Lakers are any better with Artest over Ariza either. They are still a championship contender, but not unbeatable. If Odom leaves too then that hurts as well if they can't adequately replace him.

Between Wallace and Perkins it will be an interesting battle to see who can lead the team in technical fouls. Key question is is Wallace Bill Walton circa 1986, or Artis Gilmore circa 1988. If he is the former, he can provide solid depth for 20 to 25 minutes a night. The C's still need a competent 2/3 coming off the bench to spell Pierce and Ray Allen. Tony Allen is far too erratic and Giddons and Walker still haven't shown enough to provide confidence. It will be interesting to see if they could get a Grant Hill for the veteran minimum with the enticement of a ring rather than him getting extra money to be on a lower/mid level team. Top 3 in the East appear to be stronger on paper, a team that appeared to be improving in the East in Chicago appears weaker on paper. Miami has been stagnant, and Crawford has never been on a team that has won 35 games, so I'm not sure how that impacts Atlanta. Perhaps Washington emerges as the team off the radar in the East if everyone is healthy, but still too many question marks there. And I'm not sure if a mainly European style team can compete in a series with teams that are physical/defense minded, so the jury is out on Toronto. Now, the interesting question is what team rolls the dice on Iverson? Since he shoots a lot and really doesn't play much defense anymore, sounds like a Don Nelson type of guy for Golden State.
Rasheed Wallace fit perfectly with two teams ... the Celtics and the Spurs. I am glad he chose one of those two. The guy still has a lot of game left, he just has to bring it everyday. If he falls in line I can see a rebirth of sorts.
