| #1 Posted on 9.2.03 0058.29 | Not the biggest NBA fan lately, but I always try to watch the All-Star Saturday Night festivities. I find it funny that it's M-Jeff's last All-Star, and it's going to be on cable. Wow, that ABC deal sure is a great one.
For me to poop on.
Anyway:
Pluses:
*The new Skills Competition: Although it was only four players, it was fun to watch four good point guards go through the paces. Poor Gary Payton; "The Glove" needs to remember to pick up that ball next time.
*Slam Dunk Competition: Only four players... but both Mason and Richardson made it fun to watch. The through-the-leg could get old... but it's pretty damn neat. M-Jeff acting as a judge was cool. It wasn't '88, but it's miles and miles away from the "Spin the Wheel, Make the Deal" debacle from last year.
*Frankie Muniz' trey.
*Charles Barkley's commentary, even with a sore throat/laryngitis.
*TNT's 3-point contest score cg.
Minuses:
*Isaac Hayes reading off of teleprompter. Looked horrible. If you're going to pick up a check, at least be prepared.
*The end of the 3-point contest. Both Wesley and Peja got royally screwed. It would have been interesting to see what would have happened if the audio operator didn't mess up, but we'll never know. I will give props to Peja for coming back with another 20. A machine, I tell ya.
*Antoine Walker. Yeesh.
*Magic's commentary. Always bad. Made me miss Walton.
*TNT's graphic for the Skills competition -- "In case of a time..." Meaning?
All in all -- I'd drop the Hoop it Up! from the festivities, keep the skills competition, and up the players in both skills and dunks to 6.

My favorite was the "All players will be timed on a clock starting at 0:00.00" graphic.
Like you're going to start a clock at, say, 6 seconds?

| #3 Posted on 9.2.03 0348.36 | Instant Rating: 5.54 | I'd go with Bill Simmons' proposal to make HORSE an All-Star event. Every player in the league would be interested.
Well Mr. Burns had done it. The power plant had won it. With Rogers Clemens clucking all the while. Mike Scioscia's tragic illness made us smile. While Wade Boggs lay unconscious on the barroom tile. We're talkin'... Softball. From Maine to San Diego. Talkin'... Softball. Mattingly and Canseco. Ken Griffey's grotesquely swollen jaw. Steve Sax and his run-in with the law. We're talkin' Homer... Ozzie and the Straw.

| #4 Posted on 9.2.03 1207.56 | Of course, the worst graphic idea of the night was to have the picture of the competitor who was on the bubble block the view of the basket. Yeah, I'm watching the 3 point shoot-out to see David Wesley's reaction instead of whether the ball goes into the basket.

| #5 Posted on 9.2.03 2259.19 | I found the All-Star Saturday Night show so fasinating I fell asleep. There did seem to be a few WCW like moments didn't there? Anyways, my 2 cents. I'm new to the board (check out freshest wiener!!) and wanted to contribute in some small way. Seems like a great site.

| #6 Posted on 10.2.03 0108.27 | But don't forget the rookie game. That was absolutely one of the most entertaining things I saw that day... not necessarily for the right reasons. I mean, how hard is it to not throw an alley-oop OVER THE BACKBOARD?

Americans are a resolute people who have risen to every test of our time. Adversity has revealed the character of our country, to the world and to ourselves. America is a strong nation, and honorable in the use of our strength. We exercise power without conquest, and we sacrifice for the liberty of strangers. Americans are a free people, who know that freedom is the right of every person and the future of every nation. The liberty we prize is not America's gift to the world, it is God's gift to humanity. - President George W. Bush, State of the Union Address, 1/28/2003 | redsoxnation

It got old about a dozen years ago. Now, its bordering decrepit.

| #9 Posted on 10.2.03 0843.20 | Just a few thing bothered me about last nights game.
It should be on prime-time at a major network. I shouldn't have to channel surf at 8:30 to find it on TNT.
Let Yao Ming play. Give the millions of Chinese fans what they voted for.
Take the shackles off McGrady, he is the best player there.
The overhead 989 skycam gives me motion sickness. Just show the game with the normal sideline camera.
Stop interupting the game with useless interviews with Shaq and F'n Jeff Gordon. Pay attention to the game.

| #10 Posted on 10.2.03 1819.22 | How about J-Rich bouncing the ball of Carlos Boozer's head, and then sinking a three? I can't believe Boozer didn't punch him out. And of course, Richardson did it with about 8 seconds left in the game, so Boozer had no chance to get back at him. If someone did that to me in a pickup game, it had better be one of my friends, or I'd be swinging. Actually, this might be the only reason to watch a Warriors-Cavaliers game the rest of the season.

| #11 Posted on 10.2.03 2050.31 | I didn't get to see the Frosh/Soph game, but read about JR's move. Did he do it like in a street move/dis that you would have seen on an "And 1" Streetball tour? If so, it would have been entertaining -- just not the place.
The dunk contest is old... but it was a bit better this time. Problem is that you aren't able to do as much that are repeated. The bounce pass reverse through-the-leg was pretty sweet.
