Given the high rate of death and the frequent injuries, no one can take the business for too long. Nathan felt like he almost died on the plane ride there, probably had some sort of introspective nightmare about where his life had taken him, and got the F out to live the remaining year or so of his life in beautiful Perth, Australia. Good for him.

From the interviews of seen of him, he still comes across as the big 'ol slow Queensland boy. Maybe it was all getting too much for him. (Note that our biggest 'rat race' Sydney has about 5Mil people in it compared to US cities.)

For some reason the old Frank Sinatra quote keeps comming back to me. Something like "I made a mistake in Australia. I got off the fucking plane!)

You know, I was watching Velocity this week, and Kanyon was teamed up with a non-roster jobber (Chad Collyer), which is a sure sign that one is likely to be released the next time they have a contractual opportunity. What if they had given Kanyon Jones' push? Granted, he's not quite as big as Jones, and certainly less muscular, but he's still a really big guy, and his in-ring work and his mic work are so many light years ahead of Jones it isn't funny. And Kanyon certainly had the committment to the business that we now no Jones didn't. But, no, he isn't roided up and he's a WCW guy, so Vince won't do jack with him.

This sounds to good to be true. Which means of course that after the holiday break Jones will come back after realizing he doesn't get paid if he quits the company. Now, if he is gone, where will Vince find a big, talentless foreign stiff? I wonder if he still has Giant Gonzales' number?

Why Pro Wrestling proves the INS cannot keep terrorists out of the United States: If a felon like Nathan Jones is allowed into the United States with no special skills (unless being totally inept in the ring counts, but I think there are enough totally inept people in the US to keep that skill from being unique or special), then how the hell can they justify keeping anyone else out?

I'm afraid to see the reaction if someone who's actually done something more offensive than fail to entertain the IWC retires.

Does anyone else find it ironic that a guy the WWE billed to be the meanest, scariest, toughest guy to walk through the curtain quit, in part, because he was afraid of flying during their overseas trip?

Well, B.A. Baracus on The A-Team was one badass mofo, and he had a fear of flying. Had Nathan Jones not quit for real, maybe that angle would've made him more interesting.

No shit. I've been a Kanyon mark ever since I saw him dress up like the concession guy and sneak attack Van Hammer and Perry Saturn. It is a damn shame how underutilized some of these guys are.

To follow up on the plane's going down with sports teams on...

It has happened before, the Munich Air Disaster of 1958 killed the majority of the Manchester United squad on their way back from the first leg of a European Cup tie (in Belgrade I think). Amongst those lost was Duncan Edwards, until recently England's youngest ever International. The team was widely regarded to be among the best in Europe and were in line to become the first English side to take club football's biggest prize.

The few survivors included Bobby Charlton (England's greatest ever goalscorer and 1966 world cup winner) and Matt Busby the manager who rebuilt the side and ten years later won the European Cup with a new side that included George Best (probably the greatest player ever, certainly the best from the UK).

So, it has happened before with devastating results

Yeah, we're such bad guys for being glad he's gone. It's not like he's:

1) over

2) good in the ring

3) looking like he was improving

What would be the upside to keeping him around? Despite having a good "intense look", he's was absolute garbage in the ring, and didn't look to be improving.

Hopefully this will open up a spot for somebody more deserving on SD ::coughKanyoncough::

Also, in 1993, the Zambian national team (news.bbc.co.uk) lost 18 players in a plane crash.

I did a search for "sports teams plane crash".

All members of the 1961 US figure skating team.
Most members of the Puerto Rican national women's volleyball team. (no year given)
10 members of Oklahoma State University men's 2001 basketball team.
All members of the 1980 United States Olympic boxing team, except for Bobby Czyz, Marvis Frazier and Lee Roy Murphy.

I could give you a sports team crash that happened locally here. 1974 plane crash of the Marshall Football team. That was a sad thing for this area at the time anyways I'm not even sure if that's the correct date, I'll check though. Now back to the as the WWE Turns.

Nathan Jones, I was warming up to him, I'm not going to cry because he's gone but I am going to give the best pun I can think of. Farooq/Ron Simmons: Damn...

*EDIT*
I was wrong on the date...here is the actual date, Nov. 15th, 1970 and I'll post this link because it details most everything I've ever seen on this tragic event in my area.

How to Make the Wienerboard a Better Place, Chapter 1: Just because you can't spell "Heidenreich", doesn't make you clever.
jwrestle: Yep... incidentally, isn't that the crash that convinced Madden to never fly again?

And as for Nathan Jones retiring... He had a different vibe going... it was almost refreshing. Too bad he didn't have the skills to put it together. Shame, really.

WWE.com has a FIVE page article with people stressing that the only reason he retired was that he was sick of the travel.

Interesting article. I believe all the stuff about him being shy too. I met him a few years ago (2000?) at a UPW show, I went about 2 hours early to watch the students in their school train. Nicest guy in the world.

Victoria was there looking like skin & bones, except for her big ol' fake boobs. I like fake boobs just as much as the next guy, but she was so skinny, her body shape looked like the letter "P" from the side-view. Weird.

Anywho, so I'm standing behind these 2 HUGEHUGEHUGE blonde white dudes and they're talking to each other. I almost thought they were brothers except one had an Australian accent and the other didnt. I think the non-Austrailian one said something about being a football player. So I was standing about 2 feet behind the Australian one, but a little to the side. When he turned around to walk away, he slammed directly into me head-on. Well almost head-on anyway, I'm 6 feet and I think the top of my head reached the bottom of his chin. Like I said earlier, this dude was TREMENDOUS (and I was about 30 pounds lighter at the time), so he almost knocked me right over. The only reason I didnt fall down was because he reached out and caught me!

He then proceeded to dust me off (even though I hadnt actually fallen) and apologized to me and asked if I was ok a good dozen times each. Then he intruduced himself to me, shook my hand, and apologized some more. He was practically falling all over himself apologizing to me and I got a little embarassed because everybody in the room was starting to stare at us. I think even the students in the ring stopped wrestling to watch us.

And there you have it.

What a Wonderful Article!

Nathan Jones, a man who stunk-up the ring to the point that the company had the hold him back, WALKS OUT of the company. Not only that, but he waits till Australia so he doesn't have to pay to fly back home!

Yet wrestlers that have died or have been released get a little blurb or get shit on.

I'm betting Nathan Jones will make a shocking return around Wrestlemania time.

Flair: "Tonight, it's gonna be Austin, Bradshaw, taking on the NWO!

I was just wondering if anybody knew of a site where I could download full matches (WWE/WCW/ECW/JAPAN) or even clips of classic moments. I used to use Kazaa to find some but that's too buggy to even use anymore.
