I just got word from Australia that Nathan Jones has “retired” from WWE while on the Asia-Australia junket that the Smackdown brand wrestlers are currently on.
Despite the fact Brock Lesnar, Paul Heyman and The Big Show tried to talk him out of it at today’s show in Perth, Australia, Jones grabbed his bags, said he can't take the business anymore and quit WWE. From what I was told, he didn't even do his match on today’s house show.
According to a number of people in the locker room, the feeling is that the plane ride that started the tour, which had the scary moments over a snowy Russia and a rough landing in South Korea, was the start of it all for Jones. From what I was told, no one in the company seemed to be surprised by him leaving.

So who's going to open the first champagne bottle? Man, i'm sure Vince must be pissed with all the time and money spent on this guy. Maybe he'll think twice now before going after these green big guys.

Seriously...What. The. Fuck. Despite being the most hideously untalented piece of shit ever, he had been given a golden path to the top of the mountain. He had a good look, great music, and probably would've gotten over with the fans despite his in-ring abilities. Why why why? Not that I'm complaining....

Still, right on about Heidenreich not getting Nate's push. Unless he starts lactating too. Then it's okay by me.

Wow, I have to admit this was a pretty shocking piece of news...not that I care, but still. He was an up and comer and was getting somewhat of a push... I agree with DJRan...he obviously didn't have the love. It's just amazing to think of the guys out there on the indy scene busting their asses who would give anything to be in his spot and he just walks away...

But yes, perhaps it's best that he didn't hang around long enough to leave a bigger gap in storylines. I was about to let him grow on me a little--but he wasn't quite there yet. Soon forgotten.

That seems plausible... I can certainly see how one bad flight could freak someone out, and make them think twice about having a career where you travel as frequently as that. Although it's somewhat odd that a guy with the life experience of a Nathan Jones could be that freaked about anything.
Are there any indies in Australia of any size? If it was just the travel thing, he could parley his exposure into a fairly nice career as the proverbial big-fish-in-a-small-pond. Hell, if he had the occasional plane ride left in him, he could go up to Japan and do the "big scary gaijin" thing.
Ah well. Whatever the actual reason, I wish the guy well.
