Since it was brought up in the Site Feedback thread that there is no NASCAR forum here it is the Daytona 500 thread.

It’s been a long couple of weeks with no football to watch and now NASCAR will keep my interest until the NHL playoffs. It used to strike me as strange that NASCAR held its biggest event on its opening weekend, but now it makes sense to me.

There is less competition this time of year for their viewing audience and most years the points race is virtually tied up before the last race of the year.

I'm looking forward to watching the race this year as its one of the only ones I watch start to finish other that those I attend.

So what other wieners will be watching cars go fast in circles?

I don't watch but I started paying attention to who's who a few years ago when my job had me traveling to parts of the country where NASCAR is King.....I even have a fantasy NASCAR team over at ESPN.com.......could this be Jeff Grodon's comeback year now that he's split with his wife ?

Yeah, but parity is king in NASCAR. What's the point of individual makes and models if the cars are going to be basically identical?

Americans are a resolute people who have risen to every test of our time. Adversity has revealed the character of our country, to the world and to ourselves. America is a strong nation, and honorable in the use of our strength. We exercise power without conquest, and we sacrifice for the liberty of strangers. Americans are a free people, who know that freedom is the right of every person and the future of every nation. The liberty we prize is not America's gift to the world, it is God's gift to humanity.

I think that it caters to the blue collar American fan that only buys Fords or only buys Chevrolets. It gives them another rooting interest if their driver is having a down year. I know a number of fans whose first argument against a driver will be the make that he drives. Plus the Manufactures trophy rewards the sponsors by giving them bragging rights for the year.

And despite NASCARs efforts to create a level playing field it still seems that certain makes have an advantage at certain tracks.

I love this time of year, Nascar starts and everyone has a chance. But I think this is gonna be the year of #8.

I think he finally has his head in the game and will make a run at the cup this year. And it seems that the Chevys are the car to beat.

I have been watching Nascar for about 8 years now and really enjoy this time of year also. With football over, having no interest in baseball, and losing all interest in basketball by the minute, Nascar gives me something to watch on Sundays and follow until football season starts back up.

I missed the Bud Shootout last Saturday, it sounds like it was pretty entertaining.

And I agree with ICEMAN. I think this will be the year of Little E, but I'll be pulling for B. Labonte to have a better year than last.

Bud Shootout Summary: Dale Jr. has a much much better car than the rest of humanity (not including video games - going from 18th to 1st on a yellow flag restart at Daytona with 3 to go puts me sorta in Dale's league.)

So I still don't get how he didn't get pole, except that maybe he runs even better in traffic.

I hate that the 125s are on FX because I don't get FX and they're always fun - more off the track, watching the borderline people from the first race and try and figure out if they're in or out depending on the current finish. They're running the second one at night so perhaps they'll explain it to the people at home this time - I was kinda charting them out in my head because the people at TNT were no help last year.

Anyway, barring a crash or major mishap Dale wins on Sunday. And then I go back to faintly paying attention...

I agreed with everyone who said this was the year of #8. I think for the first time, DEI is going to be stronger on the 1 and 1 and a half milers and not just the megaspeedways (Daytona, Michigan, Talledaga and Indy). I look for little Mikey to win again this year too.

Rising....
Biffle will win one or two
Robbie Gordon will win
Harvick gets back in it
And that other Gordon? One two with Dale Jr. Be a good question to see what way they fall.

Fading
This is the end of the line for the old guard. Rusty, Terry, Sterling, G. Bodine, Rudd - you're all about done.
Steve Park Retires with a bad head

Did anyone see the "All time" Nascar top ten?

The King and the Intimidator up top as they should be. RICKY RUDD in second? The guy has never won a cup! He's the best loser!

and Gordon? Not on the list. Sorry, Boy. You ain't from around here, is you?

You know, Swervin' Ervin had the bad head thing at Michigan, in what, '97 96'? Then after that he just crashed, over and over. I liked, but I was glad to see him hang it up. Same goes for Park. Nice kid and I thought he'd rule the roost in WC, but the crash seems to have taken him out for good.

Root for Stewart. He's like a New York boy. :)

You're probly right but I will hold out hope for at least the first half of the year. He was breaing into NASCAR at the same time I was getting interested and recognizing his name from the local scene kind of seeled the deal. So now I face the prospect of finding a new driver to back. I like stewart but would feel like a bandwagon jumper and get roasted from the group I watch with. I know allot of people who have had their driver fall by the wayside but I thought I was set for years to come.

Just got finished watching the 125's. D.E.I. and Richard Childress still control the NASCAR Universe.

I'm sparing $$$ in hoping that Roush Racing will break the Glass ceiling.

Forgot to mention the Tony Stewart Drama that happened again. NASCAR gave him a crappy engine to draw ratings just like last year.

Seems like Junior is the MAN this Speedweeks! Wonder if he'll break the old man's record and go for all four tomorrow? That was one good Busch race today. My Boy Harvick made a nice comeback after the gasman screwed up.

After all the trouble they've gone thru to fix this race for Dale, he has battery problems? How incosiderate! At least he has one of his laps back.

rain delays are boring.

I dont want to start an arguement but I'd believe you if it wasn't obvious that ALL DEI such as Harvick also are good at ALL restrictor plates races such as Talledaga.

That Newman crash was the scariest thing ever. And he was able to walk.

Hal: Aww, that's beautiful, son. It's a utopia.
Dewey: And anyone stupid will be ground up for food.
Hal: Oh. A cannibal utopia. Interesting.

Except Harv isn't DEI. He's Richard Childress Racin' - though they work together some.

But you want to see a REALLY scarey crash - see the one Dale Sr had at Talledaga back in, say, 96 or 95. It was really wicked. They show it all the time.

And It was a bit boring except I love Mikey. I'm glad for him. (and Harv was 4th - way to go Kevin!)

I have Little E, Harvick and Robbie Gordon in my fantasy League with Greg Biffle as a backup. I figure no one took Mikey - I thought about it just for today and 'Dega. I don't think 4th, 6th and thirty-whatever is going to get it this week.

Well, i'm happy for Mikey.

At least he can enjoy this one for a while.

And that Newman crash was SCARY and immediately I thought about Dale Sr. and Rusty's crashes where they flipped about 80 times. And Davey Alison had a wreck just like that too.

Ryan is praising the rollcage god right now.
