| #1 Posted on 10.2.09 1433.26 | Instant Rating: 2.36 | IGN: News Corp Pulls Plug on MyNetworkTV
February 10, 2009 - After a few months of giving it the old college try, MyNetworkTV is packing it in. It seems as though, despite increased ratings, the state of the economy is just not conducive with starting out a whole new network with its own original content. According to Variety, "The struggling three-year-old broadcast unit gave up any pretension of being a broadcast network this week, announcing Monday that it will adopt what it calls a 'programming service model' for next fall."
So much for that idea. Too bad, because I think it could have eventually found its stride with the right mix of programming.
At the very least, though, at least we don't have to worry about SmackDown!
What does this mean for the station's number one draw, WWE's Friday Night Smackdown? Well, it's going to stay on the channel, but now without the possibility of any original content getting built up around it.
That's a relief, at the very least.

Love the line in there where Greg Meidel (MyNetwork TV prez) says they're "blowing up the network model," and "we think the other networks will follow us."
Riiiiiiiight.
'Cause re-runs of older shows have NEVER been done before.

All kinds of old and obscure shows I watched back in the 80's in San Diego on stations like channels 6,51, and 69. BTW, does anyone elsewhere get long pauses of dead air or just a MyNet logo during commercial breaks on Smackdown? Just wondering if it's the local channel or the network.

I *love* RTN. Watching old Knight Rider and A-Team episodes is a blast and it's especially fun comparing the old Battlestar Galactica to the new Battlestar Galactica. Even better, they throw in some retro-commercials as well.

Up here, we air RTN on WBAY-TV's digital subchannel 2-3.
I've heard rave reviews every time I see extended family members.
Glad y'all like it! :-)

Sounds like your local channel isn't doing anything with the local commercial insert times.
Our "My Network" is a fully dedicated 1st tier channel. We also get RTN on ABC's .2 channel. I like it, but it seems like the schedule's always wrong, so I never know when anything's on. |
