This is probably a stupid question...

There's an old eighties, british group called THE ESSENCE. I only know of two songs by them titled The Cat and A Mirage.

The question is, did they have any actual albums come out? I have a 12 inch single with these two songs but it doesn't say anything about the songs coming from a forthcoming album.

It's killing me not to know.

Help would be much appreceiated(sp?).

...yes I DID do a google, yahoo, ask jeeves... you name it search, it's just one of those obscure groups that if you never heard them, you'd NEVER hear them type things.

Thanks in advance...

They have a listing at allmusic.com

I'd link to it, but you need to register to see it.

I did a quick search on Napster (I love Penn State's digital contracts!) and I found four albums by them. I see both songs listed, so I'm pretty sure this is what you are looking for.

Albums:
Purity
A Moment of Trust
Ecstacy: Nothing Lasts Forever
Dancing in the Rain: The best of the Essence

Napster has all these albums coming out after 1995. It looks like they are re-issues.

Do they sound like the Cure? If they do, then I think I've found them.

Yes Roy, they sound exactly like the Cure, only not as whiny. Check them out.

Thanks.

As I'm not a big Kathy Mattea fan myself, there's not much I can give you in the way of personal recommendations. IMHO her best single was "Eighteen Wheels And A Dozen Roses", while her best overall album (again, IMHO)
