Vince McMahon's latest contribution to educating American children was a graphic lesson in necrophilia.
Monday, within the WWE's primetime show on CBS/Viacom-owned TNN, an angle was presented in which a wrestler sexually groped a female corpse. Had this angle been staged in reverse - had the WWE presented a woman having sex with the corpse of one of McMahon's pro wrestlers - there would be plenty of real corpses to choose from.

| #3 Posted on 25.10.02 0918.17 | Eh, I expected a more harsh reaction to the angle instead of the sarcasm that we get...but like it matters anyway? Fuck him....Good to see he udnerstood what was happening as he said the wrestler was 'groping a female corpse', obviously not aware the the skit was a spoof, and there was no confusing the fact that it was OBVIOUSLY a dummy (in storyline and reality).
However, that last comment was COMPLETELY unneccesary about the dead wrestlers. There's no reason to shit on the British Bulldog because Vince came up with a stupid angle. I understand where people are coming from when they hate wrestling, say it's fake, blah blah, but his problem with wrestling is obviously a little too personal...I've never seen people show disrespect for the dead of our great sport like he does. | redsoxnation

He didn't mention Bulldog in the story. He could be talking about Jerry Blackwell or Eddie Gilbert, whose deaths he has mentioned in the papers. The death rate for wrestlers is high, and Mushnick has a point he clings to because it can't be refuted.

| #8 Posted on 25.10.02 1017.51 | Come on. The "great sport" deserves all the disrespect it gets.
Again and again, wrestlers die from drug overdoses or complications from heavy drug use. And they die YOUNG.
If this was any other "sport", you can bet your butt something would be done about it. But in professional wrestling, everyone just goes on their merry way.
That's totally fucked, and in that sense the HHH/Katie skit was morbidly ironic.
The fact that the whole sorry circus is marketed to KIDS, many of whom can't really distinguish between what's real and what's not, is a sad indictment of the times we live in.

| #12 Posted on 25.10.02 1145.23 | spf, there is a fundamental difference between rock and roll/wrestling and football/bseball/basketball/etc.
On a football team, baseball team, etc, people, while they may be concerned in their individual goals, have a team to think about as their primary raison d'etre. Wrestlers and, to a lesser extent, musicians, have no infrastructure to place peer pressure on them to do the right thing, etc.

The sport doesn't respect its dead, so why should anyone else?
I think the drug issue and the frequent deaths would be a MUCH better reason to think wrestling is complete garbage than the whole real vs fake issue.
Fans tack dignity and honor onto wrestling that the wrestlers and promoters themselves largely don't care about...

Just because they're doing a bad angle, and just because the WWE is going through hard times, doesn't mean that I think pro-wrestling should lose it's title as "our great sport". We've called it that for years, have we forgotten? No matter how bad times are, it will always be MY great sport, at least.

Remember the RAW after Pillman's death where Vince decided to have the beginning of his heel turn by conducting a harsh interview with the widow of Pillman less than 48 hours after his death.

I actually buy the Post everyday, and if you really want to rip Muschnick, do it on the days when he gets all high and mighty about the degenerates in insert sport, and then see the ads for the strip clubs and guns for sale on the same page. Muschnick's a hypocrite, but he is correct about the extremely high death toll in wrestling.
