MTV2 to Reintroduce 'Headbangers Ball' Monday April 28 8:16 PM ET
MTV2 on Monday announced a spring-summer schedule that includes the return of the heavy metal favorite "Headbangers Ball," a new commentary show in which artists talk over their videos and a documentary series about ruined musical careers.
"Track 2" follows the audio-commentary craze started by movie DVDs and combines musicians remarks with footage from their videos.
Meanwhile, "Nose Dive" will document the key moment that ruined a particular artist's career, "from flaming out on live TV, to being arrested, to getting into that bad third marriage," according to a network statement.
Other new shows include "Spoke 'N Heard," an alternative hip-hop video show; a redesigned version of the interactive video program "Control Freak," and a documentary special about the "22 Greatest MCs."
Metallica is set to host the May 10 premiere of "Headbangers Ball," which originated in 1987 and lasted until 1995.
MTV2, a spin-off of the original network, focuses more on musical content than the main channel, which devotes much of its time to dramas and reality programming.

| #2 Posted on 30.4.03 0808.32 | I hope 120 Minutes isn't cancelled. A year ago, it had a good time slot, at 11:00 PM on Sundays, now it's at 1:00 AM on Sundays.
"Nose Dive" sounds like fun.
That last paragraph about MTV is sad, really sad.

That's what I was thinking. What the hell is their playlist going to be? Today's hits or the Monsters I've come to expect? I remember the latter years of HB when the Seattle scene exploded. While there were some amusing moments (Soundgarden bowling, Cobain in ball gown), it just didn't work without the 80's glam bands.
Rikki Rachtman sould host again. Or Lemmy just for shits and giggles.

| #7 Posted on 2.5.03 0633.40 | Here's a sad update on the future of 120 Minutes from the Unofficial 120 Minutes Website.
The rumors we have received about the cancellation of 120 Minutes on MTV2 were unfortunately confirmed on Monday, April 28, 2003, with this message posted by Jim Shearer on MTV2's message board: "Two special guests join me for a very sad and glorious 120 Minutes (sigh)--I think that's all I'm allowed to say. For those who grew up on this show (like me), make sure you don’t miss it. If you can't stay up that late, you better at least tape it. Bring lots of kleenex too..."
"With 120 Minutes cancelled, there is simply no outlet for alternative, innovative, and groundbreaking music videos. MTV2 has failed us once again, making another huge mistake that will ultimately lead to the demise of the channel. We hope that MTV2 will realize its mistake and resurrect 120 Minutes, or at the very least, create a new show that plays the same type of music videos."
Personally, I rather see 120 Minutes than a repeat of a Ja Rule Diary.
Looks like the suckiness of MTV is starting to spread to its sister station.

| #9 Posted on 6.5.03 0704.34 | Here's another update from the Unofficial 120 Minutes Website.
Now that 120 Minutes on MTV2 has come to an end, what's next? The answer is Subterranean. According to MTV2, Subterranean will go underground to find the best new videos and play them every week.
On the last episode of 120 Minutes, Jim Shearer called Subterranean "the evolution of 120 Minutes" and referred to it as simply the show's new name. This is good news for everyone who is a fan of 120 Minutes. We are still not sure why MTV chose for 120 Minutes to come to an end after all this time, but at least this genre of music videos will live on.
Subterranean with Jim Shearer is set to premiere Friday, May 9, 2003, at 12 AM eastern time on MTV2, and continue to air Friday nights at 12 AM eastern time.
That's good to hear.

From what I read, she was originally supposed to do it, but is going to be sticking around at Much Music after all. I don't know if she pulled out or if MTV2 changed their minds about her. Personally, I would have loved to have seen it. So Metallica's going to do the first show, and I haven't heard anything about what's going to happen after that.

Maybe she saw what happened to Rachel Perry? Oh, if only I could get MTV2... (points at the posts on 120 Minutes/Subterranean)

| #13 Posted on 12.5.03 1241.10 | On Saturday's Headbangers Ball hosted by Metallica, they played old Metallica songs, and also a lot of new "metal" songs, Staind among others.
This weeks' Headbangers Ball is hosted by Staind.
