I am looking to get a cheap MP3 player, but I do not want to get an iPOD nano or whatever the cheap one is. Can anyone give me some insight into which brand and model to go with? I'd like to keep it under $75.

I just yesterday got a Sandisk Fuze. You can get an 8 gig on amazon for 65 bucks. My wife got a 4 gig Clip+ for 40-some-odd dollars. They seem to be doing the job for us.

I second the recommendation for a Sansa product. I've had a first generation 1GB Clip since the week they were introduced and have never had a single issue with it. Same deal with my wife. We've connected them fine with Windows, Mac, and various Linux machines. Fantastic devices.

I was seeing 30G Microsoft Zune players on Ebay for about $90.
They are great players, and the Zune interface is so much nicer than Ipod's and I-Tunes.

We purchased a Sony for our daughter with I think 16 gig for like $90 and he 8 gig is about $60. She loves it, works great with all the sites and lasts a long, long time between charges. It was recommended by some Ws and they were right. Also navigates pretty well and easy to read screen. AT least that's what she tells us.

I'll third the Sansa plug. I have a 2 Gb refurb and it works great. It was $25 a year ago and I haven't had any problems.

I installed RockBox as a second OS for the games, added functionality, etc. Love it.

I'll make another Sansa plug. I have an old 1 gig and an old 2 gig that I use for the gym and they're awesome. Being dirt cheap is an added bonus.

This looks like the value choice in black. 8 GB should be big enough for most people.

8GB SanDisk Sansa Clip (The W at Amazon) for a referral link if you so choose.

$55.54 for historical reference, at the time of this post.

I believe I had recommended the Sony Walkman MP3 player. It IS a great player as well, and fairly cheap compared to Ipods. And, it's small as well. It's also a great player.
(we have like three Ipods, a Zune, and a Walkman)

Recent model Sansa Clips also have microSD slots now, which means that on a per-GB basis it is likely cheaper to buy a model with lower built-in storage and then add a microSD card.

I've found 1GB to be more than sufficient for my needs (podcasts + exercise music).

I bought my $30.00 COBY player (4GB) at Future Shop (a Canadian electronics superstore) works well enough for me. Its' not intended for anything more than playing music. Using it for anything else is useless. I just load it up with music, put it on RANDOM, and there I go. Navigating the stuff on the player is kinda difficult as it's very slow, but if you're looking for something that works and that isn't a major investment, this one is for you.

I found it on Walmart's US website, hope that helps.

I want one I can put podcast video on and am thinking of a Sansa, not the clip- the other one. - the fuze - this one

http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Sansa-Video-Player-Black/dp/B001GCQ3KM//thewmessagboa-20

did that work? Hope so. Other than an Ipod - any other favorites for video clips as well?

That was very funny. And I don't even have sound here at work! I just sang the song along, including the riff. I wonder why these people are staring at me here....
