I am considering buying an mp3 player. I want one with alot of song storage. I will use it walking my dog or jogging to the beach, so I need a reliable, affordable one. Any thoughts?

Very happy with my Creative Zen - the storage is the right size (5 Gig, or about 200 CDs in WMA format), it's supported by Napster, play and menus are easy. And it was under 200. It was a good upgrade from my Samsung Yepp, which was also a good player, but which only held about 10 CDs.

I don't do itunes and don't support Apple systems for a number of reasons, so an ipod was not an option for me.

I like Minidisc players better than MP3 players. With the new compression technology that Sony has created and developed, it shouldn't be too hard to find a system that suits your needs.

Not at all. When I wish to download a song, I buy it. It doesn't cost anything unless you buy songs. I also have the ability to buy songs from other venues as well (I have bought them from Walmart and others), but I usually just port my CDs onto my player. I have enough to rotate as needed. But I occasionally need (or want) a long I don't have. So I buy Napster packs, so songs cost me 79 cents as I wish to get them. But there's no monthly fee.

I had to get "Foggy Mountain Breakdown" by The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. I just had to.

and no offense to you 4% folks. Apple has its role. I have other issues with them that do not involve technology.

My MP3 Player is a Rio Nitrus. It has about 1.5 GB of storage, which I have stored about 300 songs on it. Depending on how big your music files are you could have a lot more or less...

Alright, you got me. Can I please know what your issues with Apple are?

Start a new thread, please.

Now, regarding your MP3 question - you may want to consider one that is flash based if you are going to be jogging with it.

I know there are people who have luck with hard drive based players and jogging, but in my opinion you want to avoid moving parts if you are going to be jogging.

If you ever want to expand beyond an mp3 player, go for the Archos Gmini. I got the 400 edition and it has a 2.2 inch LCD screen, it has 20 gigs, plays 300hrs music, 80hrs video, stores 300,000 jpegs and has a mic. Its very flexible with custom playlists and movies on the go in your shirt pocket.

If you get an Archos, stick with the newer ones. I have the 200 (on clearance at Circuit City) and it's given me nothing but problems. Buttons don't work, plenty of bugs in the software, etc. Don't move around a lot with the thing, because it'll shut down on you.

The newer ones (my buddy has one) seem to be built more solid and less prone to sucking. I shoulda paid the extra dough, dammit!
