So if Swagger's makeover had begun in, say, December, he wouldn't have gotten in the car drunk and with weed on him? Or is it that WWE shouldn't have gotten behind him because they should have known he would get busted with drugs? I can't figure out what these two things have to do with each other.

If they don't go all-in on Swagger immediately, they could either shuffle him off TV or put the gimmick on hold. Instead, they immediately pushed him to the moon, so now they're essentially screwed for the world title feud, because it's already gotten as much attention as it has.

Yes, Swagger's a dope. But his idiocy doesn't cause nearly as much damage as it does if this company paces itself with this angle, instead of pushing it the way they did right off the bat.

RVD was about as hot a WWE star as there has been, won a title and it didn't work out so well for him and he is RVD a known pothead.

I always thought their policy on pot was don't ask, don't tell, but mostly DON'T GET CAUGHT!

I believe that Dutch Mantell's granddaughter was killed by a drunk driver less than a year ago, so I'm sure he'll be thrilled to be around scum like Swagger. I hope if Swagger is buried or fired that Dutch is kept around as a agent as he has a lot of wisdom to impart on the younger wrestlers. It amazes me that people are stupid enough to get behind the wheel whether they are under the influence of drugs or alcohol. They endanger themselves and others and Swagger is really lucky that he didn't do damage to himself or someone else.

Again, though, what's the point? Should the WWE have anticipated that Swagger would screw up like this? Or should they just generally not push anyone too much, so that it's not so bad if they go out?

BTW, it doesn't help Swagger's case that his right-wing "more all-American than you" character should be against drugs....

WrestleMania is over a month away and it's not too late to have Mark Henry, representative of America in the Olympics, suddenly find himself indoctrinated by the rantings of Zeb Colter...

Although, if they can delay his suspension, I think it works just as well to have Del Rio soundly defeat Swagger and then Swagger disappear from TV after the PPV.

This may be a(nother) hint that they need to start the process to Unify the two big titles and leave the U.S. and I.C. as the standards for each show. They already treat Big Gold like it's lesser, so just do away with it. Have Punk win it from Del Rio, claim that because he holds it that it's a bigger deal than the other; set up a unification match for either Summer Slam or Survivor Series and quit pretending there's two brands.

If that's Dutch's attitude, he'd have to be less-than-thrilled about being around quite a few people. Hey remember that time Austin got wasted and Chris Brown'd Debra? No one remembers that or cites it as representative of Steve Williams' personal character. Punk actually had a twitterfeud with Brown while at the same time promoting Austin as his dream opponent and doing cute sit-downs with him to promote WWE '13. DUIs are certainly vile, but I think some of the moralizing is a little overblown here, considering most of the people doing it in this thread would mark out like Bieber fans if they saw Jimmy Snuka putting on hand sanitizer at the side of the road.

Wait, what? Did I miss something? Wasn't that because his wife had a sextape, and have nothing whatsoever to do with drugs or any other lifestyle choices? The only lesson there was "Hey this is us being dicks!"

I swear I read some place that he was using dope, and that helped contribute to him getting jobbed out (along with the sex tape).

Hard to find in Google now, obviously, as anything with Swagger and Pot = current news story.

According to Keller, part of the reason why Swagger was jobbed out was because he fell asleep at a production meeting. I haven't read anything about his drug use before this story broke.

They still have his Raw "State Of The Union" address, but he's nowhere to be found on the "Current Superstar" list: http://shop.wwe.com/WWE-Superstars/Shop%20WWE%20Superstar,default,sc.html

I understand what you're saying. Being the morality police is a tough position to stand when many of these wrestlers (and all people in general) have done bad things. That being said, it might be harsh to include Steve and Chris Brown in the same breath. I don't really follow Steve's personal life but does he beat up women all the time or was it a one time thing? Obviously hitting a woman one time is terrible but not the same thing as Chris Brown at all. Steve falls in that "tough to criticize when we all do bad things" category. Chris Brown is in the "yeah, he's a terrible human being" category.

If there was any desire to unify the titles I think it would have been done by now. Especially since there would be no bigger time to do it than The Rock vs. Cena at Wrestlemania. You might be on to something with Punk winning the big gold belt though. Cena could pin Punk to keep his #1 contender. Punk weasels his way into the WHC match instead. Punk has something to do, the WHC match at WM doesn't look as weak. If Punk wins he'd have to do Smackdown for a few months but it could lead to a fun Champion vs. Champion match eventually. Punk loses the title when Ziggler is ready to turn face.

As far as I know (and Google/Wikipedia isn't providing any evidence to the contrary), Chris Brown has only ever been accused (and convicted) of beating up one woman one time. Stone Cold has been accused by multiple women of domestic assault, on multiple occasions, but was only actually convicted once.

But the younger Hogan's point isn't that Austin is or isn't a bad person. graves called Swagger "scum" because of this and said Dutch Mantell must hate to be around Swagger now, and if such a harsh standard is in play, where one screw up - albeit a major one - makes a person scum, then there are plenty of other people who probably would have driven Mantell from the wrestling business by now. Surely Swagger isn't the only person on the WWE roster with a DUI? He might be, I have no clue, but without researching it at all I'd have to guess he's not.

If his daughter died in a DUI-caused accident, then of course Swagger's offense may hit more close to home than many other examples, so that part of the statement makes sense, but I think "scum" is a little much.

Mantel was there in Puerto Rico the night that Invader #1 murdered Bruiser Brody - pretty sure that counts as higher on the "scum" meter.

But as mentioned, a drunk driver killed Mantel's granddaughter, so yeah, I can see how it he might take this whole thing more harshly than others would.

Besides, the murder was a one-time thing. #hilariousreferencesfromlike14yearsago

Jimmy Uso, Santino Marella, Cameron (who also tried to bribe the cop who pulled her over), Alex Riley, Ted DiBiase Jr., Bo Dallas. Probably more, but those are the first ones that come to mind.

I've long thought that they need to institute a policy where a DUI counts as a strike (or better, two strikes - I don't care what you do on your own time but don't put others at risk). And for developmental guys, I'd make it simpler. DUI = fired.
