In the past, there have been many threads asking what matches are the greatest ever, worst ever, and most overlooked. However, this post will be different addresing matches that you feel got all hype from people as being wonderful and didn't live up to the hype of many internet Marks/Smarks.
In my opinion the most overrated matches are:
Ric Flair vs Ricky Steamboat (NWA Wrestlewar 89)-
Let me just say that I loved their first 2 out of 3 falls encounter at Clash of the Champions that year to death, but this rematch, while very good did not live up to the hype many people bestoyed on it. First of All, It lacked the Physchology and the spontanuity of the Clash encounter. Also, I heard people brag about the faster pace of it which I think was a crock. It moved about the same speed as the Clash match, but was just shorter. Finally, the storyline was tainted already from the Dusty finish in the previous match. It still was about **** 1/2 in my book.
Any Jerry Lynn vs Rob Van Dam match
If you ask any ECW mutant what the best series of matches in ECW history was, most of the time, they would say Rob Van Dam vs Jerry Lynn. I don't agree. Most of their matches consisted of Stalling and fast paced suicidal moves by Van Dam that never seemed to hit Lynn. Van Dam usually just laid on the floor for about a minute into Jerry Lynn picks him up and tries to exhibit some technical and weapons based maunuevers while Van Dam was no-selling every minute of it.
Then, they would stall some more until the 20 minute mark when the match picked up a little bit and Lynn did his usual carryjob of Van Dam who would by a miracle hit a Van-Daminator and ***** Frog Splash while Bill Alphonso just rang his whistle as annoyingly as he did earlier in the match.
In conclusion, the first 10 or so minutes of the matches would be stalling with occasional "action" and constant no-selling by Dam until Lynn finally picks up the match and makes Van Dam look coherent and himself look like very good.
Marty Jannety vs Shawn Micheals RAW is War 1993- The match is very dated in retrospect in comparsion to latter Shawn Micheals contests and the near falls added very little to it because of a lack of physcology.
P.S. I'm sorry if my thread didn't work last time, it must have been some glitch.
What do you guys think was the most overrated matches ever?
A few years ago, I saw WCW Nitro on tv. There was cruiserweight action an the nWo was...talking. You know, 'Servey says' and so on...At the end of the episode, the action begun. With that in mind, I was wondering...
