Sadly the original Scott Steiner thread is closed, but thankfully that hasn't stopped Big Poppa Pump from tweeting on a regular basis.

He's still throwing out some interesting takes. I liked his reaction to Hogan's big game changing idea, but he has also been rehashing a lot of the same stuff as well. One thing he always like to say is this ...

Your power we can save Tna,the nielson ratings system monitors every show on tv & cant be ignored

Now, this isn't how the ratings system works, right? I mean if everyone that followed him had a special box this is how it would work. Or am I wrong and now that everything is digitalized this is how it actually works?

I found his tweets about Bischoff testimony from the whole club in Atlanta story pretty humorous. According to Steiner Jeff Jarrett was sent home and he's claiming that Pritchard, Hogan and Bischoff got Dixie to turn on Jeff. Steiner is very close buddies with Jarrett and some of his tweets seem to be coming from Jeff's point of view. Reading the History of TNA Ebook it seems like Steiner was a very popular guy in the TNA locker room. Steiner has absolutely destroyed Garrett Bischoff which finally set Eric off a week or so ago.

I always thought the Steiners were close with Eric in WCW, or was that just Rick?

I also enjoyed his take on wins and losses and how it doesn't matter if you entertain the crowd. As well as how pointless it is bringing in Indy guys nobody knows and having them face off with the winner getting a title shot.

The guy seems to really understand the business, which probably shouldn't be surprising but it really is surprising. Which makes me wonder if he actually gets tv ratings or not.

You're right, only the people who have Neilsen boxes would affect the ratings.

I think Steiner has been the most entertaining part of TNA for the last few months. The Bischoff story is a bit of old news, but for new fans it makes for an interesting read. He is also not wrong about sending in Indy people to go after the belts when the roster is sitting on the sidelines or busting their ass for title shots.

Petey Williams' stories about hangin & bangin with BPP on the Colt Cabana podcast make a handy companion piece to Tweetzilla's online musings.

I thought that DVR boxes contributed some data now, too.. or was that just internal ratings? Could that be what he meant? I would assume a lot more people would have DVR boxes than Neilsen boxes.

There is a lot of discussion about whether the networks look at DVR numbers are not. The advertisers are not fans of it, because you zip past their crap. Yet, its probably the more accurate number considering the amount of people who have DVRs compared to those with Nielsen boxes. I think networks would like to use the DVR numbers, but the advertisers to seem degree are stuck in the past with the ratings system plus it comes out faster than the DVR numbers.

Ratings boxes actually record information about DVR and any other recorded programming (like VHS), as well as internet broadcasts. Basically, it lets the ratings agency know about whatever you happen to be watching at the time. Once they get the data, they can tell if you used DVR, when you watched it relative to the broadcast date, and if you watched any of the ads or not.

I've done Neilson ratings twice and I haven't used a box at all. They send you a book you have to fill out every time you watch TV. It is in 15 minute blocks and you also note if you watch something DVR'd.

So there is no box. At least not when I did it. ANd the second time was last year.

They use both. In fact, Neilsen's own website doesn't even mention the diaries, although obviously they are still in use.

Basically, the standard box (the "set meter") only tells whether the TV is on or not, and what channel is on. So the diaries are used to gather information about who is watching what. In the largest markets, the newer "people meters" do both--they measure whether the TV is on and what channel is on, but also track who is watching.

Yeah, I was referring to the people meters. Honestly, I don't know why the ratings agencies would use anything else.

Lawyers are getting involved in this whole beef as Steiner says that Hogan and Bischoff had their lawyers send him a letter. Hogan claims that it was TNA lawyers and Steiner better have saved his money. Steiner is claiming that TNA has signed Hogan's no talent daughter and she is firing back on twitter at Steiner http://pwtorch.com/artman2/publish/TNA_News_1/article_61461.shtml

Just saw that. The "maybe you can do a porno like your dad or with him" line was brutal.

Are you kidding? What questions will his death bring that Hawk's didn't? Or Curt Hennig's? Or Louie Spicolli's? Or Pitbull 2's? Or Brian Pillman's? Or this guy or that guy or the other guy? Furthermore, WWE /has/ mentioned his death.
