If they make Playstation X-exclusive games my Mastercard will be burning a hole in my pocket. If it's just a fancied up PS2 and the games stay the same, I may just end up passing on it.
Washington Huskies, 2003 Pac-10 football champs. Coming soon.
It's a TiVo with a PS2. I guess this is a good idea, since they already have enough horsepower in the PS2 to decode MPEG2 streams (DVD playback). I'm guessing they are adding an MPEG2 encoder. The DVD burner is most likely for -RW or +RW recording of shows.
You can expect heavy DRM on anything from Sony though - I would be surprised if they actually let you do anything useful with it.
Willful ignorance of science is not commendable. Refusing to learn the difference between a credible source and a shill is criminally stupid.
“Maybe the PS6 or PS7 will be based on biotechnology?” Good God, are they gonna plug a PS6 directly into our brains?

PS6 - Enter the Matrix! How freaking cool would that be? Hell I'd get a socket put in my head for that.

Hmmm. I've been holding off on getting a digital video recorder, so I'm curious to see how this plays out. I can only assume there will be some sort of subscription service from Sony for the TiVo-like features. Unless, of course some sort of joint venture with TiVo or Sonic Blue is announced before the release of this mighty machine.
I already own a PS2, though, so this might not be the right system for me. If the hard drive can be used for games and not just recording TV, then great!
Also, an article in today's L.A. Times mentioned $400 as a potentially profitable retail price for the PSX. (Sorry, you may have to register to read the article.)

I was wondering the same thing. They even had PSX Magazine and the like. I guess since they changed the name of the orignial system to the PSOne this won't be as confusing, but still..
You mean SNES add-on. what I meant was that PSX was generally what the PlayStation was called when it was shortened. I don't think it ever caught on as much as PS2 has, however. But, when I see PSX, that's the one I think of.

I've always been under the impression that the original, bulkier PlayStation was the PSX, the smaller edition was the PSone, and the PlayStation 2, was well...the PlayStation 2...
And as for the new edition: GOod luck getting a Canadian cable company to support TiVo or whatever that similar service is...

I think you're right on the money. Perhaps the original SNES add-on (that never came to be, by the way) was called the Playstation eXperiment, as one wiener suggested, and that's where the moniker PSX came from when referring to the actual Playstation console that DID come to be.
