So I hear the latest QB gossip is that Matt Leinart REALLY wants to be a Jet. However, the Jets allegedly would prefer a QB that has already proven himself, so they're interested in my best good friend and Atlanta backup Matt Schaub. Additionally, ESPN.com's Michael Smith was on SportsCenter today saying that it's not just the Jets that are interested in Schaub (off the top of my head, I can only remember him mentioning the Titans, but there were like 5 other teams too).

Now. What does this mean? Well first, any good Falcons fan will remember the disastrous season the Falcons had when Vick went down. With Doug Johnson and Kurt Kittner as our backups, we put up the worst passing display this side of pee wee football. You'd think that that season, combined with the awesome skills Schaub has demonstrated and Vick's inherently dangerous style of play, would convince the Falcons to keep Schaub around.

HOWEVER, if there are good enough offers on the table, who's to say that a backup QB is not expendable? For example, if the Titans are willing to part with Billy Volek, maybe a trade is doable. I also hear that the Falcons are interested in the Jets' John Abraham, so maybe the Jets aren't out of luck in the Schaub sweepstakes.

What I want to know is, how likely is it that the Falcons can trade Schaub and their middle-of-the-first-round pick for the first round pick of someone like the Titans or the Jets? I'm probably just dreaming, but the thought of drafting Vince Young to back Michael Vick up.. well, I like it. I like it a lot. Then again, maybe the more realistic thing, assuming we could even get such a high pick, would be to draft a damn receiver.

You wanted the best, you got... Out of Context Quote of the Week.

"I know, I know you are saying "sure there was some bad calls, but Jake Gyllenhaal obviously dropped too many easy catches and Ang Lee had some horrible clock management at the end of each half!"" (krakken2000)

Just your luck, this is the deepest draft, first-round wise, in receivers since... wait, no, actually, the receivers suck. Might be better off holding on to that mid-first pick and grabbing an ex-Florida workout wonder.

Why not just make Shaub your QB and put Vick in a HB/WR role? He would be better suited there and the offense would have a better passing QB and finally a threat at WR.

Well, that's just drunk talk! Sweet, beautiful drunk talk....

Vince Young doesn't want/will refuse to be a backup quarterback for more than a season or so. Also, that's a ton of money to tie up at one position. Why use a top-five pick on a BACKUP.
