I think the casting of Turturro as Monk's brother was excellent, though the actual crime itself was a bit thin. Overall, though, a good episode that brought out some real emotions.

"Aw, geez. The barricades don't line up properly." "You're just trying to get rid of me." "No, I'm not. Look. The middle one is completely off-center."
I laughed.

"Sir, we'd like permission to search your pie." "What?" "Please don't make me say that again."
Hopefully they'll bring Turturro back for more episodes. He was perfect.
I also like how they had fun with the established Monk formula after the "summation".

John Turturro was hilarious, and perfect as the neurotic brother.
Another great line came from the lieutenant, when Monk's nurse (?) was searching through the pie:
"Y'know, this is one of my fantasies. Only there's no pie. And you're not in it either."

I saw this week and last week and I can take it or leave it. I don't MIND it, and if I'm home Friday nights at 10 I'll probably turn it on, but I won't go out of my way to tape it or anything...and it doesn't look like I'll ever be around to catch the "new to me" ABC Saturday showings. The best thing about this show is that we really like making fun of the Randy Newman theme song.

I thought it was one of the better episodes I've seen, only because we at least know that Monk's OCD was probably from family issues -- just triggered by Trudy's death. |
