Never hurts to be optimistic, but it's crazy that people still give Hogan the benefit of the doubt whilst simultaneously knocking Vince and company. I'd say the Vince and WWE have brought us a lot more successful entertainment over the past fifteen years than Hulk and Bischoff, and yet it's always those last two guys who seem able to sucker people into thinking that their new junk is worth buying.

Looking at the Hardy debut, maybe TNA was smart to hedge its bets. It's looking more and more likely that Jeff will get some prison time or at least an embarrassing conviction. Then again, the smartest thing to do would have been to not sign in the first place. Has anybody else seen the rumours that Matt Hardy is considering jumping now, too?

On the one hand, he's been off TV forever (but still been wrestling), he has a fresh look, and wasn't overexposed, so sure. On the other hand, given that I have to add on "and hopefully he doesn't travel with underage boys anymore," I'm not sure this was a wise decision.

I figure they're doomed.

TNA can pop a decent rating by putting a live stacked card against Raw every so often. It will be seen as an event. And yes, a 1.5 against Raw is a big success, given their normal ratings. When the next first-run Thursday shows don't measure up, ratings-wise, TNA will decide that they have to run live against Raw every week. But running live is much more expensive, and I doubt they'll be able to maintain a 1.5 against Raw - as newsworthy as Impact was this week, it was also terrible. They don't have a Hogan, a Flair, and a Hardy to debut every week, and a one-time special will draw casual and lapsed fans who could have been watching TNA all this time and chose not to.

If TNA starts losing more money, and the ratings fall back to current levels (or worse), that could doom the whole thing.

I certainly might be wrong and I hope I am.

This is true. But before they go bankrupt, there were certainly be a change in the writing staff. Russo is probably going to be fired, and hopefully they'll end up with a better booking committee (that is, not Kevin Nash).

This definitely has resulted in shaking TNA out of complacency. They could have lasted forever as the 1.1 rating, 20K PPV buys, 1K house show attendance company. Now they've put themselves into a sink or swim position. I hope they swim, because WWE needs some legitimate competition. I'd like to be able to turn away from Raw when it's insulting my intelligence and have Impact make me feel good about that decision, but that's not happening under the current regime.

TNA is capable of making a difference. It'll never catch up to WWE, but it can get close if it changes the writing. (Fun fact: TNA had bigger buyrates during the days when Impact was available only on the internet compared to now.) If that changes, then TNA can actually make some serious improvements (and hopefully drag WWE along with it).

Wow, is that true?

It seems so counter-intuitive -- what's the explanation for it?

A combination of better builds to matches and the guarantee at the time that you were going to get awesome matches every show. Back then, PPV was literally the only source of revenue, so it had to be successful or the company would die. Scott D'Amore was notorious for scripting the PPV first, and then writing the TV to match his PPV. Now TNA is profitable from the Spike money, so their entire goal is to keep the ratings up, with the PPV being an afterthought.

May not even be that long -- Kevin Nash says, via his twitter page: "I think going head 2 head every monday is in the works.Spike was happy with the ratings.special 4 me to be back with the band, great night!!!" For what that's worth.

Oh, wow, I had forgotten about that. There were a lot of rumors floating around -- was there anything ever confirmed?

Hey, that was 5 years ago, so the special guy must be like 21 by now. TNA is already bringing in new young viewers.

I was intrigued by Jeff Hardy showing back up in TNA. I thought the WWE just suspended him, or did he quit and head to TNA.
It would be kind of cool if he was on some kind of a "open contract" like japanese wrestlers get, where he could go back and forth moonlighting other wrestling promotions for short periods of cross-promotional bouts. In fact didn't Matt Hardy do that during the Edge/Hardy/Lita triangle? I can remember him facing Homicide in a match with the announcers selling the angle as "Edge personally called Homicide to injure Matt before his return to WWE".

Caught someo f the replay last night and when Hogan and Bischoff were in the ring "changing the format" and Bischoff kept looking at his watch, I was waiting for him to say "......three minutes."
Seeing the STEEL ASYLUM again still wasn't any better than the first time. S'funny seeing now how there really wasn't a door on the thing and how two of the sections just kept flopping around. Also, it looked ot me like Homicide didn't get stuck, he just couldn't out the top. I just realized they actually cut out part of his struggle to get out cuz on Monday there was a couple of shots of him actually trying to catch himself with his chin on the opening trying to get leverage to get out.

Read it and weep, fella

Finally watched this yesterday. My first Impact viewing all the way through (I think). The show had a very WCW-feel to me. Same lighting, same camera angles, same crappy music, same announcer (?). It really bugs me that you cant hear people's entrance music when they come out, comes off as low-budget & bush league to me.

Everything else I can think of has already been said. That's what I get for waiting all week to watch I suppose.

You know what, I just figured out the secret behind this whole Rock being a heel thing. It's all Triple H's doing! See if everyone cheers Lesnar, then Lesnar goes face.
