Regarding them not blurring the old logo:

http://www.pwinsider.com/article/70484/why-the-scratch-logo-wasnt-blurred-on-raw-1000.html?p=1

-------------------------------------------------------
In regard to WWE using the scratch logo last night, I was told by several sources today that using the logo in flashback sequences is now being approved within the company, so short clips no longer have to be blurred.
Whether that approval will expand to complete matches and other archival footage, I don't know but one source believed the company wanted to come up with a strategy to get rid of the blurring before the planned WWE Network was launched.
-------------------------------------------------------

Won't that piss off the pandas?

Greg, your recaps somehow made Raw relevant when at a lot of times the show itself wasn't.

As JR was the best damn commentator, you sure as hell are the best damn writer in your field.

Amazing how good JR and Finkel are, when compared to... pretty much everyone else ever.

Slick was also sensational. And Lawler was killing it with the divorce jokes - I guess you talk about what you know.

The Mae Young bit called for some sort of Hamburger Helper joke but I'm not sure where it is. A friend of mine didn't want to watch the show with his new girlfriend because he thought it might be embarassing. Not sure where he'd get that idea from.

That Charlie Sheen stuff made me hate Sheen, his TV show, the WWE, Skype, and life itself.

Lita: I don't want to be one of those guys that drools every time there's a girl in the vicinity, but. And it's great to see that the APA patched things up.

The best part of the show, as it is every week (for us Canadians watching on The Score), was when it ended and Punk Payback With Bas Rutten came on. Best show ever.

Yes, this. It's perhaps hypocritical of me, given that I think the handful of guys here who drool over the divas are usually quite creepy, but holy cow Lita looked amazing last night. Better than I remember her ever looking when she was a regular on TV.

I think I scared people with how loud I laughed at the Mae Young hand joke. That blew me away with what a sly payoff that was for those who were watching back in the day.

When I see that they are capable of humor like that, it makes things like Hornswaggle as GM all the more frustrating.

Was Charlie Sheen communicating from outer space? That choppy crap was not a good way to promote Skype. Sheen could probably afford his own TV station at this point.

Rock's "I'll fight you....at the Royal Rumble" was almost as bad as "I'll fight you...in a year". His Hollywood schedule must allow for no spontaneity at all. Rock's part-time status is really annoying. Are you back or not?

Totally underwhelming wedding, yet I liked how AJ wore her Chuck Taylor high top sneakers under the dress.

X-Pac is looking like Rob Schneider. I'm pretty sure he was purposefully not allowed near a microphone. I wonder if Tensai was bummed they didn't have an X-Factor reunion.

Regarding Punk's behavior toward fans---it seems every week there's a new story about him having an incident with a fan. It seems he's the problem, more than the fans.
He should accept that this is part of the job of being a wrestler-especially the champ.
There's a great picture on the internet of a teen CM Punk getting to meet Stone Cold Steve Austin. How would he feel if Austin blew him off? I really hope these pics turn up if and when these two feud. CM Punk as a bratty teenager must have been unbearable to be around - especially with his flame-red Sheamus hairdo.

Thanks, geemoney!

Regarding the show:

I'm still surprised, more than a day later, that WWE had the balls to make John Cena the first person to cash in his contract and not win the title. (Although I like this booking better than just a straightforward setup for Rock/Cena II).

Ah Geemoney you're the true pro's pro. Thanks for all your efforts and enjoy your well earned retirement!

He's actually the most logical choice. Who else would have the credibility to cash in a title shot and lose, yet still be able to OVERCOME THE ODDS and not get stuck with the taint of the "first guy to cash in MITB and not win the title"? Besides, it's believable that Cena's made enough enemies in WWE that someone would run in and blow it for him.

I caught the show over two days and I enjoyed all the callbacks.

-As someone who barely watches wrestling anymore, I did appreciate geemoney's recaps. Usually read them Tuesday mornings at the office.

-I don't think I realized that Bradshaw had retired. For some reason, I thought he was on injury leave.
-I was impressed with Vickie's cleavage, and then Lita showed up.
-Did Jericho have botox or something done to his face? He looks like Bruce Jenner does now.
-I got more of a kick than I should have with Fozzie Bear's segment on catchphrases.
-It would have been nice to see Chyna out with DX. Probably bad blood with two ex-boyfriends there, though.
-No Shane-O-Mac?
-I felt sad watching Christian lose the IC belt especially doing it in front of guest timekeeper Bret Hart.
-If I was younger, I'd want to try pulling off The Miz' jacket.

Enjoyable, but there was nothing on the show that made me feel compelled to keep watching in the future. I had a blip last year when CM Punk did all that stuff, but there's not the same buzz this summer.

I think Chyna's absence has more to do with the fact that she's batshit crazy and regularly launches into intoxicated Twitter rants about how evil the company is and how Vince tried to rape her or something.

Just because you see a celebrity doesn't give you a right to act obnoxious. If it was an official event, where the point was to meet someone and that happened, then I could see your point but someone in an airport has no obligation to talk to anyone if they don't want to.

Maybe the person could respectfully approach and ask but it doesn't mean anything has to happen. Why do people think that any time a celebrity is in public, they have to do anything someone asks of them?

Makes me wonder if they had different plans as to what to do depending on how the poll went. I recall they actually sounded surprised that so many said AJ should say I Don't.

Wait, Smackdown doesn't have a GM either. Is AJ just the General Manager of RAW or is she the successor to Big Johnny as the General Manager of both RAW and Smackdown?

They were very specific in saying that she was only the new GM of Raw.

Geemoney, thanks for your hard work. In my new capacity of only reading how the Raw show went and then deciding if I want to watch it off the DVR, I'm very saddened by this news. But you deserve a break/retirement, so have fun.

If their new plan to let viewers run the show is as unobtrusive as "run a poll, plan for either eventuality, and book accordingly", that might just work.

I don't think it could have been a situation of things changing. Daniel Bryan could have been planning for one thing but got AJ through a wrench in the plans, so they never came to fruition.

Cena was the guy who could afford to do it, but did he *really do it?

John Cena is the first man to cash-in MitB and not win the title, but he won the match. When some up-and-coming Dolph Ziggler type gets the briefcase, and gets brogue kicked-pinned by Sheamus when he cashes in, he'll still look like a total chump.

And when WWE puts out the word that they don't understand why the fans are shitting all over the decision - it's no big deal stupid rubes, remember that Cena also "failed" with the briefcase - we'll all roll our eyes at them.

[sarcasm] I can't wait for the "Once in a Lifetime" rematch at WrestleMania. [/sarcasm] Good that they have a long-term plan for booking purposes, not necessarily so good that we know where the whole angle is going so that both Royal Rumble, and WrestleMania become very predictable.

(Edit: I suppose I should be fair, and mention that Raw did a big rating - and as much as Punk is going to storyline complain about Rock walking in after four months and getting handed a title shot at Royal Rumble (and leading to another main-event WM spot).. business-wise Rock will be worth it in buys. Even if it's more WWE/Vince's fault for completely failing to make a new top-level bankable star since Cena. To the point McMahon feels he can't afford to change the ultra-stale Cena act.)

Read it and weep, fella

Finally got to watch the whole thing last night. I really enjoyed this show. First time I got an "anything can happen" vibe for a Raw episode in YEARS. I'm gonna watch it again later to make sure I catch all the small stuff I'm sure I DVR'd through by mistake.

I liked the set/stage changes and loved the new on-screen graphics. I kinda miss the old "WWF/E through the years" intro because it seemed more thorough than this new one. Maybe it'll grow on me. Here's what else I remember:

  • The Layla/AJ scene with all the weirdos in the hallway was funny. I've noticed the last few times Mae Young has been on TV they stopped letting her actually "walk" on-camera. Not sure she really can anymore

  • Didnt much care for the wedding swerve. So when DBryan proposed last week and AJ said "Yes", she was really saying "Yes" to a completely unrelated job offer Vince made to her off-camera at some earlier point?? Or was the job offer made to her AFTER the proposal, but before the wedding, and she chose the wedding as the setting to accept Vince's offer??? Dumb either way. And why the hell would Vince give her the GB job of all people? Even if she wasnt crazy, picking her for GM makes no sense.

BTW, I get that she's crazy, but if her crazy antics ("I'm-gonna-jump-through-this-table-no-wait-I'll-push-you-through-it-instead", "I'll-marry-you-wait-no-I-wont", etc) get TOO random, they're going to ruin this angle for me.

  • I marked out pretty big when the "other" DX members showed up. Billy Gunn looked especially in good shape. I always liked him and wouldnt mind seeing him again. Honestly, is there ANY bridge that stays burned in WWE?

  • Liked the Big Show/Cena vs. Punk/Rock segment, but I'm not sure where Big Show fits in that angle going forward.

  • HHH/Steph/Paul/Lesner segment SUCKED. Made Brock look like a complete chump. Paul gets bullied/intimidated/insulted a few times in the ring before Steph comes out and attacks him, then Brock finally gets pissed off enough to come out, but he doesnt come to Paul's rescue right away. He stands around on the stage for awhile and does that silly "Gorilla Bounce" thing, THEN calmly walks down to the ring to get humiliated. Even during the fight, it looked akward, like something got changed on the fly? Or maybe they were just way out of sinc? Weird. Either way, lame.

Oh, and HHH already puts me to sleep. HHH + Steph = coma time for me. ZZZZZZzzzzzzz.....

  • I missed when they introduced Sean Mooney by name. I recognized his face right away but his name took a minute to come to me. Kinda expected Rob Bartlett(?) and Todd Pettingill to show up too. And no Bobby Heenan?

  • I know Shane-O isnt with the company anymore, but C'MONNNNNN

  • Undertaker & HBK appeared on RAW #1 and RAW #1000. Did they make specific mention of that fact on Monday? I might have missed it.

  • With CM Punk's heel turn, is this when they bring out the new WWE belt that got leaked a few weeks ago? Seems like as good a time as any. AAAAAAND, if they're making a new belt for "him", does that mean he's keeping the title for awhile maybe???

  • Complete and total shame that Austin couldnt make the show, but I guess I get why. At first I thought he should've put off his surgery until AFTER #1000 (duh), but maybe his knee was so messed up he couldnt wait that long?

There is a lot more to Shane leaving than "he wanted to try new things".

And has there been a definative answer on why Austin wasn't on? Heard something about knee surgery, but seems they had plenty of time to plan around that.

Punk has been a bit bland the last 6 months, but that (to me) is mostly due to poor booking. I never would have imagined the Jericho feud would be so forgettable, but they felt the need to punch it up with sports entertainment (alcoholism), because the in ring work could not carry the program. Ditto, the Bryan feud. He seems to be making the most of what he is given, but you can tell his heart isn’t always in it.

However, if he goes back to the MITB/Pipe Bomb version of the character, there is no way he can be a heel in the fans eyes, because that is what turned him face in the first place. Similar to the Cena heel turn conundrum. I sometimes wonder if Punk had dropped the pipe bomb on Cena last year and their match was anywhere besides Chicago, the results may have been different, and he might have remained a heel. It was the perfect storm, but was immediately crapped down the toilet in the weeks to follow.
