The recently announced spring schedule of MyNetwork TV will see the formerly six-nights-of-telenovelas idea recognised as colossal failure, ratings-wise, and cut back to just two nights a week. Even then, instead of airing 1 hour episodes of both shows as they have been doing, they will create 2 hour episodes and give each show its own night.
Of interest to people who tend to visit this board is that Monday nights will be given over to the IFL (International Fight League) for a two-hour prime time MMA series, "Total Impact." It will air from 8-10. Whether or not it's a good idea to go up against RAW (and later, football) remains to be seen, but it's certainly intriguing. Replays will air Saturday (a not bad idea).
The final two nights will become "My Night at the Movies" nights - the first two scheduled are The Rundown and Rocky IV, 3/8 and 3/9.
Interesting that they wait until AFTER Sweeps to do this...
Schedule (beginning 3/8): M: International Fight Leagues Total Impact T: American Heiress (telenovela) W: Saints & Sinners (telenovela) R: My Thursday Night Movie F: My Friday Night Movie S: Encore presentation of International Fight Leagues Total Impact (3/10: The World Music Awards)
Unless the IFL takes off, this network could be gone by next year (or sooner)!

If I were TNA, I'd be getting my lawyers involved. This seems a heck of a lot more likely to cause confusion than, say, WWF wrestling and the WWF charity, let alone Spike TV and Spike Lee.
MMA isn't my thing, but it could do well with certain demos, and it might eat into the first hour of Raw with those demos. But you're right; MyNetwork doesn't look too healthy right now. If I'm a local station manager, I have to wonder if I couldn't do better with syndication and some local sports or something. |
