The Chargers seemed a bit miffed by those close losses for their first two games, because (after a shaky start to this game) they came out with guns blazing. They just mangled the Jets for the first half and it looked like the rout was on.

Of course, it wouldn't be a Norv Turner team if they didn't let the Jets back in it...several times, during the 4th quarter. The Jets seemed punch-drunk, knowing they were out of it, and yet still trying to climb back in, even though they knew there was absolutely no chance of them winning. They didn't even give up after the Chargers TD and FG pretty much iced it.

No close calls here. The Chargers win big to go 1-2. PLEASE let the story tomorrow be about the Chargers' dominance and NOT about "The never-say-die attitude of Brett Favre and the Jets". I'm looking at you, ESPN!

Next week, it's Baltimore @ Pittsburgh, which should keep the good MNF game streak alive.

Why couldn't Cromartie attempt to return the final pick though, as I wanted to see the Chargers hang the Double Nickle on the J-E-T-S. ESPN will somehow try to change the footage to make it seem like Favre kept the Jets in the game, despite the fact the Jets were somehow within 17 at the half in spite of Favre.
Doubt next week is good though, with a rookie QB going on the road for the first time against a Steeler team that should be pissed. 20-3 sounds like the score of next week's game.

Story? San Diego came out fired up and pissed off about the last two weeks and took it out on one of the weaker defenses in the league. No lies, the Chargers should be 3-0.

The Jets showed they can't outgun a highly potent offense, that their stars don't make a team, and their defense can't step up when hit in the mouth. Damn it.

I know some people say they've waited 100 years for the Cubs to win it all, which is absurd; they've waited their lifetime, at best. I know some teams have never won a Super Bowl, and eventually they must be due to win one. Me? I haven't seen a Jets championship in my lifetime, and I don't think I will this year, but I still have faith. Go Jets.

That reminds me of the funniest spot I have seen in a while, when in the second quarter the camera caught an idiot fan holding up a J-E-S-T sign. That has to be featured on PTI tommorrow.

But yeah, as bad a game as Favre had, it could had been a lot worse. He should have had at least four interceptions had the Chargers not been butterfingers with a couple of the throws. And the score may suggest to those who didn't watch that the Jets O had a respectable game, which they didn't at all. The 29 points were based on an INT return, a 94 yd kickoff, and 15 garbage points in the 4th when the game was already decided. But like everyone else has pointed out, the NYC and ESPN media will try to make it look much better for Favre than it really was. If that was Eli in his position, even with the SB victory, he would be torched in the NY newspaper columns.

I'm a Favre fan, but not an apologist. He did not have a very good game and certainly was lucky he wasn't picked off more. I'm still willing to withhold final judgment until midway through the season, though; it's clear he still isn't comfortable in that offense. By week 9 he better be or it's time for the glue factory; I don't see him having a terrible year and coming back for more.

I also didn't think San Diego played that strong a game. Rivers could have been picked off a couple more times than he was, too. He also looked strung tighter than Roseanne Barr's thong for at least the first quarter. And Tomlinson is going to have to do better than 26-for-67 if the Chargers are to go anywhere in the playoffs. I understand that the Jets defense was stacking quite a bit against the run, but as pointed out, the Jets defense isn't exactly great.

I'm curious why nobody's talking more about special teams. Leon Washington had 198 yards returning alone and his returns were the only thing that gave his offense life. That's a serious X-factor in any game they play. Aren't Norv Turner-coached teams known for terrible special teams? It's apparently not getting any better...

(edit: 198 return yards for Washington, not 298. Still impressive and still a tonne of fun to watch)

On a serious note, if the Jets would start Leon Washington at Halfback instead of Thomas "Hey, let's spend a ton of money on a back that was only one half of a bad offense that a defense carried" Jones, then I wouldn't have anywhere near as much to harp on on Monday (and select Tuesday) mornings.

I didn't get to watch this game for the most part as I chbose RAW instead, but were the Jets REALLY that bad? I fear for the rest of the season if so.. first the Patriots loss and now 48-29 to (an admittedly great) SD team?

I told one of my friends yesterday the Bolts either come out pissed and blow the Jets out, or they come out like they have the last two weeks and squeak by. Thankfully, they came out angry and laid the wood to a very average football team.

I can take several things out of this game. The Chargers' offense is scary good and can be better once LT sorts out this toe thing. Darren Sproles = Lionel James. The defense is too inconsistent, but I expect that will change after Stephen Cooper (banned substance) returns after next week's game against the Raiders. The D looked really good at times but still could use some tackling practice. Their tackling looked like SDSU back in the Marshall Faulk era.

Next opportunity is Oakland... and the burning question is... will Lane Kiffin still be the coach, or will Fonzie be patrolling the sideline in his leisure suit?

Well, it's not happening for at least another week. It's sad too, seeing Kiffin get strung around like this. While I'm not calling the Raiders playoff contenders, they have look like a competitive team for the last couple of weeks. Meanwhile, guys like Edwards, Linehan, and Marinelli continue to stink up their teams with no signs of improvement anytime soon. Kiffin isn't a great coach, but he deserves better than this crap.

Edwards and Marinelli haven't really been given a fair shot with those crappy teams, though.

Yeah, this should be fun. I'm probably the most likely to get banned for my name.
