I missed most of the PPV, because its Father's Day and TNT was playing A New Hope. That took precedent over this "event". I missed the return of the Hype Bros, the Usos literally walking out of a match and Lana wrestling sorta. Plus, the first women's MITB won by James Ellsworth. Yeah, a man won an event that was suppose to elevate the entire women's division by a non-wrestling male. Garbage.

We have not gotten to the bland Orton/Jinder match which saw the Sing bros attacking Bob Orton and the only interesting thing to happen was Orton legit murdering them. Jinder wins, so you would think a face would win MITB. Nope, we get bald for men, Baron Corbin as the winner. We did get some insane bumps from Kevin, Sami look like an MVP at times and AJ/Nakamura for five orgasmic minutes. Forget all of that lets give it the worst possible option.

Even in kayfabe, it appears that Shane and Bryan have lost control of their product. A man wins MITB, wrestlers attack fans and Baron attacked Nakamura prior to the match. While Kurt looks completely lost, the reality is Smackdown appeared to be a God Damn train wreck. Even in non-kayfabe, this maybe one of the worst booked PPVs in a while. I say that due to Smackdown being the brand that doesn't bore me to tears. Tonight felt like someone went out of their way to fuck the fans, because well fuck those people who paid. Mercifully I believe my subscription has ended. You know the one where they gave you Mania and four other PPVS for $10. $10 sad dollars.

I was mostly fine with the show. Some of the match endings were cheap and just a device to further storylines which isn't my favorite thing but the action was mostly good.

If you are one of those guys upset Nakamura got taken out early you are fooling yourselves. He set up a future feud with Styles, got to take everyone out once while avoiding the crazy spots everyone was set on taking.

I've seen far worse kick the can down the road shows

Yet you were able to formulate a strong enough opinion that the PPV "shit the bed". Okay!

I watched the whole PPV because MITB is on my "must watch all of it regardless of the year" along with Mania and the Rumble. After some time reflecting, outside of the last match and Breezeango, the entire PPV could be described as "solid matches with terrible finishes".

The last match was legit excellent, and one of two matches in which I was fine with the finish. Corbin is a good worker, Talking Smack showed he's got potential on the mic. Really, I'd have been fine with any of the guys winning except Ziggler.

After thought, I'm taking a wait and see with the Women's MITB. It's might be leading towards Ellsworth vs Becky, in which Becky will hopefully destroy him.

Seconding this review of the PPV, and now hoping to see Becky knock his teeth out.

I like Corbin, and I hope this will do good things for him.

I'm more impressed that it's taken over twenty years of ladder matches for them to do a "someone not involved in the match climbs the ladder to get the title/briefcase for a participant" finish. I think this is the first one, at least. Did Vickie do something similar once for Edge or Ziggler?

Yes, it's bad that the first women's MitB match was won by a man climbing the ladder. Shockingly enough, that's the point. Carmellsworth are heels. They spoiled a historic moment. We're supposed to be angry about that. The thing is, we're supposed to be angry in an "I want to see Becky break his arm" way, not a "This sucks, I'm going to stop watching" way.

We're supposed to be angry about that and heels are supposed to do evil thing, but WWE sells itself on moments and memories and the moment they had for this match and will forever have is the person who got the briefcase in the first women's MITB is a man, ell oh ell. They could've easily had Ellsworth tip over the ladder and hold it so Carmella could climb up up and grab it herself, but they sacrificed the visual for the tinniest of extra heat for an act that's still not much over.

(aside 1: the biggest moment of the part of the show I watched was AJ and Nakamura facing off, which appears to be totally based off on their history in NJPW. How's that for WWE moments.)

Anyway, it's Carmella and Ellsworth. What are the possible ends to this story?

1) Daniel or Shane order a restart on SmackDown or something along those lines which costs Carmella the briefcase, making the first women's MITB match totally pointless

2) Carmella cashes it in and loses, making the first women's MITB match totally pointless

3) Carmella cashes in and wins so they can talk forever about how important women's MITB but then we have more Carmella matches

I assume we're getting 3 - maybe with Carmella climbing a ladder and getting the briefcase herself on Tuesday so they can rewrite history and say they planned it all along those sneaky devils! - but there's a big bonus in overness and skills hidden inside the briefcase, it's a character who doesn't seem to be matching the extraordinary effort they're putting in.

and that's enough about Jinder too.

(I was struck watching that WWE didn't anticipate the level of negative reaction on this one. Getting Shane and Bryan to tweet about it fifteen minutes later and then bringing it up on air felt like an addition to the show - definitely the Lana/Naomi/Carmella segment later on wasn't written like Carmella was in any danger of losing her briefcase, and there was not even the thought that maybe she ought to cash it in now while she still could.)

I liked the show, but I wouldn't call it great or anything. The only thing I genuinely didn't care for was the finish to the women's ladder match - I really can't disagree with any of the negative comments on that one. But I liked the rest of the show. New Day/Usos was indeed a great match with a shit finish, but like most of the matches, it was a shit finish you should have expected well in advance. I'll be measured in my praise, but I thought Lana wasn't bad, and if she can keep improving, she'll actually be a nice addition to the roster. I thought Jinder and Randy had a pretty good match, I thought the finish was the one you should have seen coming (again), and honestly I don't know what's wrong with people who say that Jinder is the worst WWE champion of all time. Even if you disqualify Great Kali on the grounds that he won the World Heavyweight belt, I still refuse to accept the idea that Jinder is somehow worse than JBL, who was in almost the exact same spot when he won the WWE title. Jinder may be pretty far from the best guy on the roster, but he's a solid performer, a legit inspiring story, and he's definitely working hard to make this shot work for him.

As for the main event, I sometimes feel like people forget the point of MiTB. The winner is going to essentially try to steal a WWE title run. Any time, any place, etc. That's not a good look for a face. So all those guys we love? They were never strong contenders. In fact, Corbin is probably my least favorite guy in that match, but I still picked him to win because he was the "right" guy. Meanwhile, just about everyone else came out of that match looking great, even Dolph, who I know a lot of people hate these days. I think MiTB is probably the best match WWE's main roster has put on this year.

Women's MitB - I agree with cubsfan. If you just have Ellsworth dump Becky and Carmella climbs the ladder you get the same amount of heat while avoiding the backlash for a man getting the briefcase. Sure, it's great heat for their characters but it looks bad for a company to beat their chest about a WOMEN'S REVOLUTION and then have not only a man get the briefcase, but the worst man on the roster by miles.

Tag Match - This was a pretty excellent match. New Day didn't do any hijinx and just brought their wrestling boots and it showed these teams can be the best teams in the WWE when they put their mind to it. I didn't mind the finish on it's own, it's just amidst all the other bad finishes it was a bad look.

Women's Title - Again I agree with cubsfan that the WWE were surprised by the negative reaction and the tweets by Shane and D-Bry were a late addition. If that was the plan all along the smart thing here is for Carmella to cash in while she still has it. I also thought the tweets were just weird. Why would Bryan tweet "we'll clear this up Tuesday!" rather than call an official and tell them to restart the match? It made him look like a teenager on Facebook that posts about all kinds of serious causes but is too lazy to get up and actually do anything. Anyway, the fact that WWE was so clueless that fans would hate a man winning a women's MitB match is troubling.

Maria and Mike Kanellis - Don't care for either as wrestlers but this gimmick seemed like something that could get good heat.

Jinder vs. Orton - I didn't really mind any of this. It's exactly what I suspected. I mean it's a World Title match that wasn't deemed worth of being the main event so we shouldn't expect anything spectacular.

Breezango vs. Mystery Opponent - It's Ascension! So is this one of those things where it was leaked that American Alpha might turn heel so the WWE Creative trolled us with Ascension instead? Or is creative legitimately dumb enough to think this is something anybody would care about?

Men's MitB - Legitimately excellent match. Cool spots, a Nakmaura/Styles showdown, Corbin wins. I think the goal was clearly to get Nakamura over as a babyface for some kind of huge match at Summerslam (Styles match? Title Match?) and Corbin over as a giant heel and I think they executed both perfectly.

Nobody has mentioned it but I was really happy to see Mike Bennett make his WWE debut even if it was as ' Mike Kanellis'. Bennett has been working NEW shows, where he and The Kingdom are crazy over, forever and he gets a lot of shit on the internet but he is one of the most down to earth guys I've come across in wrestling (Maria too and I've seen her deal with some real oddballs). I'm not sure on the new gimmick yet, but the two of them will do everything they can to get it over.

Sadly VKM is getting what he wants out of this as I've seen stories about the ending to the Women's MITB match on ESPN and Deadspin today. I'm sure they're hoping the "controversial finish" will draw viewers to SmackDown! this Tuesday after the bad ratings the past few weeks. It all smacks of late Nitro era desperation to me tho.

I enjoyed the Men's MITB match as well as the Men's title match and the women's title match was at least better than I might have otherwise expected (I think Naomi dig good work making Lana look at least competitive).

I liked where New Day/Usos was going and understand the finish given the shenanigans the New Day used throughout their record setting title reign on Raw, but putting it right after the Women's MITB fiasco was a mistake.

The Fashion Police are much better in their taped segments than in the ring so I hope the rumors of more Southpaw Regional Rasslin' being filmed are true as I like them in those situations much better.

I think angle is DOA. I hope for the best for both of them.

They got me excited for two surprises on this show and I should be at fault for letting them do so. I haven't seen American alpha around recently, I don't watch too regularly, so I was hoping Kurt traded the Club for them and they were trashing the Po-Po's stuff. Second Nakamura was taken out before the bell. I thought this is Rusevs surprise return to take his spot. Where Bryan and Shane both not in attendance for this show? Saw their tweets.

I do dislike the 'wrestler injured and comes back later' angle they did (especially when done with entrance music when they come back) but I can see why they did it and gave us a great tease of what Nakamura and AJ could do. If they are allowed to, which is probably less than likely to happen. Dolph put the effort in and should be commended for it. This is his thing. Downside is it will be a while until he can show this again.

Ellsworth getting the briefcase works perfectly if it wasn't the first womans MITB match. They did well to that point. I predicted Charlotte to win only because it would add to her 'perfect' run so far. Hopefully they don't keep the case for too long if they are always going to come out and do nothing.

Day and Usos was very good until the Tuesday night finish. A cheap pinfall victory would have been better and led to the same outcome.

Maria did well on the mic. Hopefully Bennett, who is now Kaneliss, does well in the ring. They have potential as long as he is allowed to be more than the husband.

I liked the Maria & Mike thing, it could have legs. I've always liked Maria though, and seeing this side of her compared to just the dumb Maria we got before (I haven't seen any of her non-WWE stuff)... I dug it.

I enjoyed both MITB matches. I'm not as down about the Ellsworth thing, and I think it's going to lead to us getting the match again either on SD or whatever the July SD PPV is.

I'm fine with Corbin. Not my favorite, but I get it. Taking Nakamura out for most of the match was as annoying as it was with Roman, and I like one way more than the other. The Shinske-AJ preview was nice and we need that ASAP.

Fashion Vice was great. I hope they move on to greater opponents now. It won't take much to move on to greater.

Randy-Jinder was okay. Again, two guys I'm not really into so I wasn't really into the match.

I agree.

At first I marked out from total surprise when I saw Maria back in the WWE. And I liked the entry music.

But then the more they talked, the more I thought this gimmick was dumb and I don't see it working at all. But I hope I'm wrong.

I figured Carmella would win because she is the best character to walk around with a briefcase and get heat.
It was funny that when Elsworth climbed the ladder the crowd was cheering, figuring someone would climb up and kill him. That's the way it's supposed to go. Him getting the briefcase and casually dropping it to Carmella made the crowd turn on 'em.

Then the count-on win for the New Day, that didn't help the feeling that this ppv was gonna be bad.

Women's match. Decent effort by Lana who does have some skills but needs more practice.

Jinder-Orton was alright, I just don't care for them.
It was Obvious the two brothers were going to go after the Legends/Orton but I expected Bob to punch them.
And for Randy to destroy them like that..only to walk into a Kalas, that once again deflated the crowd.

So...Ascension. Cool. Actually meh. Don't care. But it gives Breezango a win. Fashion Vice was funny.

Men MITB .. great solid match. Taking out Shinsuke was not a smart plan imo (why did he need to be protected? any injuries or something?) but they did well and then when he returned it was a good spot of him against everyone. He seemed a bit stiffer than in the last few months which is good. The crowd buzzed for AJ en Nakamura and I liked how they were on opposite sites then moved the ladder to duke it out.
Corbin winning is (just like Carmella) not a bad thing.
He's the brooding type that looms in the background and will just snarl and say "watch your back, I'll be coming for you" ... but probably not until we have a big face champ.

the show was saved by the final match, but not a good show.

PS- Mike & Maria, we'll see where it goes but I think they already have someone doing that gimmick on Raw called Miz & Maryse.

The other option for Carmella is that they have another women's MITB on Smackdown (tonight?) between the other five women in the match, thus having two different women chasing Naomi around with briefcases. Technically, Daniel/Shane shouldn't be able to overwrite Carmella's victory since as was stated several times, she technically didn't break any rules.

George Michael weighed his options. Maeby had chastised him for not taking risks, and what would be a bigger risk than perpetuating a lie about software just to ignite the passions of a woman? Of course it would be a lie, and since Maeby wouldn't know it was a lie, he wouldn't appear to be taking a risk. Perhaps the bigger risk was to tell his father he was lying, that he came up with it because he wanted his father to leave so he could enjoy what remained of his senior year. After all, he wondered, wouldn't that be the course of action taken by an overtly sexual man, a man who owns a pair of matador pants? He had not responded now for 41 seconds according to his unfailing internal clock, and it was time to come clean.
