Edit: Ok sorry about that.

I am happy to see that I was not the only one who read it that way, Mark!

If you consider repeatedly cheap-shotting someone who is prone on the ice "great"...

"Apparently" doesn't cut it with me. Sorry. Not sure if that gives a guy who can barely skate backwards the right to beat the holy hell of someone on the ice without reprisal.

It's not quite the same, though, as the guy Brasher destroyed was AT LEAST engaged in a "hockey fight" with him, unlike the guy in the foreground who gets creamed by a guy flying in at him. Bertuzzi hit a guy who wasn't in any kind of fighting circumstance at the time.

| #11 Posted on 8.1.05 0148.45 | Instant Rating: 5.58 | Bertuzzi had been following Moore around for a while, and the whole night Moore had been getting hit by every Canuck on the ice, so he was expecting *something* everytime he was on the ice. He even knew that the coach put him out there knowing that he was going to get beat up by everyone. Since no one else ever says it, I may as well here: Fact is if Steve Moore didn't have a glass jaw at that one instant, he would have stumbled down from the punch and Bertuzzi would have gotten 2 minutes for roughing. That's it, end of story for that punch.
The guy Brashear was beating the shit out of was lying on the ice barely knowing what was going on, with Brashear pounding repeatedly until he could have killed him. He wasn't in a fighting circumstance after the first 5 seconds of the fight either, and Brashear threw a helluva lot more than just one punch to a defenseless person. You're right that it's not the same, but not in the way that I think you meant.

So, since it was premeditated, and Moore 'knew' he was going to get hit, its an okay punch that Burtuzzi threw? Moore's ability to take a hit is probably diminished by the fact that it came from behind, when he wasnt prepared or expecting it. | Sobriquet

And I'm an Avs fan (well, a Habs fan, but being the Roy fanatic I was since a kid, I kind of adopted them), and can't stand the Canucks. So I'm at least somewhat unbiased. Sorta. Maybe.
Or not.

The NHL said that the attack was premediated and that justified them in ending Bertuzzi's season then and there and basically costing the Canucks any shot in the playoffs. As a Flames fan, I can admit that.
That said, Bertuzzi's always been a rough & tumble player. He's talented but also throws down once in a while. Donald Brashear is a waste of space. I can't fathom why he's still playing professional hockey.
