I didn't know what I was watching at first then I hit the info button and it said Miley Cyrus. I'm no prude, and I'm all for sexual exploitation, but this was just weird. The girl isn't even 18 yet and in the 10 minutes I had this on there were numerous down the shirt shots and an even stranger shot, a close up on her crotch with a grab of sorts along the side.

My Miley Cyrus knowledge is weak at best (it was only a couple a years ago I found out she was the same person as Hannah Montana). I'm assuming this was the whole 'I'm grown up now' coming out party. I now understand why so many young looking girls dress like strippers.

Wasn't it South Park that did the episode on Disney breeding whores at an early age? They weren't kidding.

If I ever have a daughter I'm dressing her in one of those Mormon dresses like they wear on the compound in Big Love. No showing the wrist, no showing the ankle.

Maybe this is just my 'BDL, I'm a confused old timer' coming out thread.

I literally read this right after seeing last week's Entertainment Weekly when they showed a picture of Miley at some sort of show (they didn't specify) singing while appearing to not wear any pants.

This, along with your stuff and the odd photos from a few years ago (when she was 15), and I think we have a case of a girl trying to rebel against the Disneys and even her dad. I only hope that she doesn't go the way of Britney and let all the hoopla overwhelm her.

The practice of incessantly pointing cameras at and giving dumb, uneducated redneck girls millions of dollars to "sing", dance, and/or "act" before they graduate high school (if even) should stop in general.

Thus, John completes his transition from the 18-34 demographic to the 35-49 demographic. Quelle depressement! John...I was hoping you'd stay Forever Young

It was just last week I believe that a photographer got a pic of Miley getting out of a car wearing no underwear. The Perez Hilton website posted it and got into trouble since she is only 17.

I definitely see Miley unfortunately going the same path as Britney.

Apparently that was a photo-shopped picture Perez posted. Doesn't save him really though, since posting photo-shopped pictures of underage people is the same in the law as posting real ones.

Other than that, I definitely see a "rebelling against Disney" thing going on.

I thought Billy Ray ran a Hulk Hogan like ship when it came to Miley.

How much of it is her wanting to rebel and her people wanting her to keep the machine alive and printing money only instead of having crushes and baking cookies she's showing her shit and is open to gang bangs.

I guess my question is if they kept her as the wholesome girl would she still sell or would the generation she grew up with shun her because it is only natural that they turn into muff showing whores at that age.

Whats' the alternative to Britney fame? Kelly Clarkston? Is she even still relevant?

Maybe, thats' another part of the information age I just haven't caught on with yet. I guess it is possible that being known for clubbing and being plastered on every tabloid, Extra show, and blog really is the draw. It's like Facebook times a million. Everything else is secondary, and to tell you the truth the music I did hear when I was watching this was in fact terrible.

BigDaddyLoco, welcome to the dilema, it's IMO harder to raise a daughter, especially with what is presented to them in the media. My wife and I were really lucky with our daughter as she had a decent sense of modesty, not a prude but modest.

Billy Ray gave her a standing ovation after she finished dancing on a pole at (ironically enough) the last Nickelodeon Kids's Choice Awards, so maybe he's proud of it???

How do I go about breaking this all down without sounding prudish OR pervy OR on a High Horse™ brand soapbox? Is that even possible? I don't know...but let's try!

She'll be 18 tomorrow (well, actually, this November), and then this little pseudo-scandalous instance will just be a footnote in her career and #31 on the next "E!'s 100 Most Scandalous Moments of the 2000s" TV special. No one will care and everyone will wonder what they were getting all riled up about aside from its "cultural significance." And honestly, what's this magic thinking that somehow changes everyone's mind about the "appropriateness" of her actions prior to her 18th birthday? A law designated with an arbitrary age? To quote Dave Chappelle, "How old is 15 really?"

Again, not trying to sound pervish, but this point is really one of relativism, which exists on multiple levels. This is the exact same as Britney Spears' first "Rolling Stone" cover, except it's being done in front of an audience instead of inside your head.

Again, nothing new; that's the business cycle for most female celebrities. Before it was done via Playboy shoot or "edgy" role, now it's through tabloid articles and clandestine sexuality.

That has nothing to do with Miley Cyrus specifically; young girls and 18 to 20-somethings dress like strippers because it's accepted as "normal" by society, as just another part of their coming of age. Sure, you can have individuals that don't agree with that idea, but on the whole, we go to war to defend the right of women to choose to dress like strippers...so we can all get retroactively concerned about them dressing too much like strippers. "OMG, what's it doing to our children???" AMERICA! BYAAAAHHH!

That girl isn't "trying to rebel" against anything; she's doing exactly as her team of well-paid managers, handlers, advisers and PR people tell her to do. Besides, I believe she's performing now (exclusively) as Miley Cyrus, not under the "Hannah Montana" brand. Two different shows and audiences. Disney probably doesn't care since she's not promoting their concept; plus, they've already made their money.

...BYAAAAHHH!

This is all serious business.

I get what you are saying and I'm not specifically blaming Miley Cyrus for anything. It's the whole *winkwink* *nudgenudge* part of the culture that is a little creepy to me.

Heh. But I think my position on this started to form when I was still in my late 20's, I'd say right around the time Britney and Kevin: Chaotic (remember that?) came out and we saw clearly, really for the first time, Britney's life through her eyes. And how empty her head really was. Then the emotional breakdowns started...

Is Miley made of sterner stuff than Brit? We'll see. And I mean it: We'll see. The media will force us to watch no matter what. There's dump trucks of money to be made off these dumb kids, exploiting these dumb kids, and these dumb kids exploiting themselves.

Ok, so we know the Numbers were used to signify different candidates. But are the candidates numbered in order? Like, was Locke the 4th best option, Hurley the 8th best option, Sawyer the 15th, etc.?
