Mike will have to go a long way to top "I'm gonna fuck you 'til you love me" as his best press-conference line ever.
"You may be wondering why I have been making so many references lately to Fox News. The reason is that it is now my cable news network of choice -- because if I’m going to watch the news and be lied to, I want it to be ridiculously obvious that I am being lied to." -- Center for an Informed America, Newsletter #34
"Lennox is just such a great fighter, I take my hand off to him," and "I don't know what I'll do, probably just fade into Bolivian" are my two personal faves.
Washington Huskies, 2003 Pac-10 football champs. Coming soon.
Interesting followup to this whole Tyson interview fiasco. Basically, he says that everyone is drawn in by the walking time bomb that is Mike Tyson, and that no matter how much people claim to be disgusted or shocked by him, pretty much everyone will continue to follow his every move to see what he does next. Kinda like watching a train wreck to fulfill some sort of morbid curiousity.
Also, I mentioned the proposed Mike Tyson reality TV series. Well, this article talks about it a little bit. I wonder how it would have fared..
What I get out of Tyson's comments is that (if he is serious and truthful about what he says) then he really believes he didn't rape the woman. What's the point of denying something years later, especially when you're not a person with a stellar record since then? Now that doesn't mean that he didn't rape her. He may just have a different definition of what "rape" is.
NOTE: The above post makes no sense. We apologize for the inconvenience.
It's a free country and everyone has the right to say what they want. I'm saying that making jokes about raping someone--whether you're a washed up boxer or the owner of a message board--is insensitive to anyone that has been sexually assaulted. Like me, for instance. Rape isn't just something in a news report, you know. It happens every day to real people. It wouldn't seem very funny if it happened to you or someone you love. I know none of you really think rape is a joke. I'm not mad. I would just like you to stop and think. We can't fix a problem until we're willing to deal with it directly, instead of hiding our discomfort behind humor.
My theory about Tyson is that he's just desperately trying to hang on to his celebrity. He'll do and say anything to stay the center of everyone's attention. That doesn't mean he's smart or calculating. It just means he's a pathetically insecure little boy. And like a little boy, he doesn't care if the attention he receives is good or bad so long as everyone is looking at him. Of course, he believes he's innocent. Every criminal believes he was entitled to commit his crime. That's why they became criminals. Humiliating the victim is most of the fun for a rapist, but that's only because he truly believes his victim deserves it. The best way to punish Tyson is to simply take away the cameras. Without an audience, he wouldn't know how to exist.

I think you're probably right, but who's to say that Tyson deserves punishment? Assuming he did rape Ms. Washington (it was so long ago, I know absolutely zero about the case), he served the amount of time our justice system believes is appropriate? Did he get off too easy? Well, I would think that rape is worth more than three years in prison, but like I said, I don't know the specifics of the alleged incident.
Personally, I think Mike Tyson is the king of shock media. I really think he might do something really stupid one day - like assault a nosy reporter - and land himself in prison again. I think people are too quick to attack him about every single thing that he does. Go ahead and hate him for being a convicted rapist, but don't curse him to hell for getting a tatoo. No wonder he's so instable. But then again, maybe he's just the real life version of Scott Steiner. Everyone always thought HE was gonna go apeshit on TV and get himself black balled from the industry, but that never happened either.
Who really knows what goes on in a psycho's mind, though?
You could say the same thing about any celebrity or sports star or especially pro wrestlers, regardless of their criminal actions.
Take the cameras away from Hulk Hogan, he doesn't know what to do with himself. Neither does Ric Flair or Roddy Piper or any number of these guys. Even Michael Jordan couldn't stand to be out of the limelight.
Is Mike Tyson as insane as he appears to be? I think so. I don't think it's an act on his part at all. I do think his "handlers" use it to sell his image, and point him in different directions instead of actually trying to help the guy. Because we all know, a sane Mike Tyson wouldn't sell PPV's and make all those people money.
So is it wrong to laugh at the stupid things Tyson says? I don't think so. He's chosen to make a living in the public eye. Is it right to deny him the right to do his chosen job just because it's in public? He's allowed to do it and he has to deal with everyone thinking/knowing he's a rapist.

Wow, you sure know a lot about somebody you've never met. Everybody here seems to have opinions of Mike, so I'm gonna go out on a limb and say he just don't give a fuck. Plain and simple.
Want my opinion of the war?
"The problem with the rat race is that even if you win, you're still a rat" - figure it out.
Assuming he did rape Ms. Washington (it was so long ago, I know absolutely zero about the case), he served the amount of time our justice system believes is appropriateDamn, you had to go and hit me right in my liberal sensibilities, didn't you? You're right, of course. Tyson did serve his time and has the right to lead his life. I could try to wriggle off the hook by saying that it's his current behavior that disgusts me and not his past, but that wouldn't be completely honest. Normally I'm a "live and let live" kind of gal (which is why I usually keep my opinions to myself on this board), but Tyson makes my teeth grind. Rape just isn't something I'm capable of being dispassionate about.
