I really hope that this is just a stupidly easy problem that I can't fix, but I can't get my microphone to work. When I go to the Control Panel to test the hardware (as has been suggested to me), I get the following error messages:

"An error occurred during DirectPlay Voice setup. The error code is 0x80004005."

"Windows cannot execute DpvSetup.exe, use Add/Remove Programs control panel to install."

I have no idea what to do. Please help me.

Try the registry edits there and also reinstall the latest DirectX.

Done. Still not working. Additionally, I can't get the registry edits to stick. I change the values, and I close the registry, and I open the registry to make sure the values are still there, and they're not.

As I've added more software to my computer, it's begining to slow down at startup, and generally runs a little slow. I think I've got either 64 or 128 of RAM. Does anyone believe that adding more RAM could speed up my machine?
