NEW YORK -- General manager Omar Minaya's and manager Jerry Manuel's tenures with the New York Mets in their current positions likely will be over after this weekend, sources told ESPNNewYork.com.
Multiple team officials said no announcement is planned until after the regular season's completion Sunday.
You can only play the "injuries" card so many times before it stops becoming an excuse. I never thought Manuel was a good idea in the first place, so I'm not surprised he got the axe. And considering that Minaya was a central figure in the Willie Randolph fiasco, the Mets' collapses in the next two years, and the baffling Jason Bay contract, I'm really surprised that he survived this long.
Having said that, isn't it time to completely clean house on the Mets' medical staff? Something HAS to be wrong there if they're constantly riddled with injuries.
"Playing guitars. It's hard to sing while playing...guitars."
Jerry Manuel is a historically bad manager and Omar might be a good scout but a terrible gm. He surrounded a pretty good core group of 4-5 guy with dreck. Poor Wright and Reyes have seen part of their prime pissed away. Would love to get Bobby V back but the Wilponzi's are hellbent on drunken wifebeater Wally Backman being the manager.
I've got to agree with MedallaGuy, Paul O'Neill's kick to the cutoff man was both hilarious and damn impressive. As a Reds fan, that's probably one of my favorite baseball moments, humorous or otherwise, of all time.
