I wonder if the deal is worth that much if the Jays don't overpay for BJ Ryan. Word is it was a 3 year, 30 million dollar offer, and now it's possibly 5 years, 50 million?
Now word is the Phillies are going after Tom Gordon to be their closer, since Wagner is now out of the picture. I guess he'll be cheaper than Wagner, which means they could get a starting pitcher, but whoever replaces Wagner is a downgrade.
Forget the rest of the article, if you read the Mattingly quote on it's own you can see that he knows he's not going to the hall. The rest of the arguments are pretty compelling, too (but a bit more incendiary).
