They also give up minor leaguer Scott Kazmir for Victor Zambrano.
I like the Benson trade but Kazmir for Zambrano? I don't know. Wasn't Kazmir the Mets best pitching prospect?

Kazmir is a top ten prospect in all of baseball, if the experts are to be believed. After all the Benson hoopla, it's pretty striking that the Mets gave up far more for Zambrano than they did for Benson.

"His tits are at least REAL." (Kane Is Ugly) Actually, they gave up a minor league catcher (forget his name, but he is a big prospect for their system) to KC to get Jose Bautista, who they sent to Pittsburgh. So in a way, it looks a little fairer, but Pittsburgh doesn't benefit as much as Tampa.

Biggest reason is that Benson is a free agent in waiting while Zambrano is close to minimum salary heading towards arbitration, thus 3 years away from free agency. Pinella must really be thrilled that after getting his team to play well for a while, ownership dumps the closest thing he has to an ace (on a good team, maybe a 3, but its the D-Rays) while he's 3 years away from free agency. Does this mean that Crawford and Baldelli are on the market next summer, as they will be getting towards arbitration? | BigVitoMark

The Mets are fourth in the division and ninth in the wild card hunt...it would make more sense to me if they were dumping guys rather than picking them up, especially if they're giving up solid prospects to do so.

I've heard that the Mets are going to push to sign Benson once they get him in there, and with Victor Zambrano about 3 years from free agency, it now gives them a solid 1-4 in the rotation, with Trachsel being bumped down to the 5 hole. In that division, it might just be enough. The Braves have only recently started to pull away, so there's time yet. | Big Bad

Posters of her should be all over the clubhouse the moment Kip steps into the clubhouse. Though now matter how good a piture he is, Kip is a hard name to fear. Certainly this would shore up the Met's pitching, now if only they can improve their defense...

You mean Kris (Benson). Kip (Wells) is still with the Pirates and hasn't been traded (yet).

//edit: The Mets balked at trading Kazmir to either the Yankees or Rangers in the offseason to get Alfonso Soriano. Now they trade him straight up for Victor Zambrano.

Justin Huber, who played down here for the Tides... This is an interesting move, as I think the Mets gave up a lot of top prospects to get these guys. So is this a "right now" move instead of looking to the future? (And yes, Huber was their top catching prospect, drjay).
Now the Benson's have a new stadium to christen as well ;-)

- was selected in the rule V draft by Baltimore from Pittsburgh - designated for assignment - claimed by Tampa Bay - designated for assignment - claimed by Kansas City, and now - traded Back to Pittsburgh.
