... right on the head.

From his Vengeance preview:

"*Vince McMahon vs. Zach Gowen: This match isn't nearly as important as the buy rate. If it comes in good, then Vince will have made a point loud and clear that people would rather watch his family in freak show matches than pro wrestlers. And if it doesn't, well, that just proves that Angle and Lesnar don't have it."

This is why I didn't order the PPV, even though I really wanted to see four of the matches booked. I don't have a Nielsen box, so I can't affect TV ratings. I don't buy WWE merchandise, so I can't stop buying it to protest the direction of the company. The only thing I can do is buy or not buy their monthly PPVs.

Many wieners will say that Angle/Brock/Show, Eddie/Benoit, Taker/Cena and the tag match far outweigh Sable/Steph and Vince/Zach. They probably think I should take some crap along with the good, like I used to take the Patterson/Brisco Evening Gown Match and the Women's Pudding Matches without complaint. They are right -- these four matches do outweigh the crap. The problem is that the bathroom break matches of years past weren't the centerpieces of the TV shows like the McMahon crap was leading up to Vengeance.

So I decided to take a pass on Vengeance, even though I knew I was going to miss a pretty good PPV (and from what I've read in other threads, it turned out to be a great PPV). I also hope other fans who feel like I do also gave it a miss. But I fear Meltzer is right ... if the buyrate isn't great, Brock and Angle may get the blame, and I did my part to make that so.

What's a fan to do?

Brock and Angle are as probably almost as untouchable as HHH in the company right now, given that they have been both booked as the centerpieces of Smackdown for the last, what, year? Angle has done nothing but impress everyone in the company, and WWE has made it clear that Brock is the future. If the buyrate isn't great, well, who knows....maybe Big Show or Zach will get the blame, and frankly I'm fine seeing neither of them main event ever again.

PPV's get seperate ratings based on how many people buy the PPV. Of course, there's no way of knowing why they're buying the PPV, which is why Meltzer said that Vince will take the credit for a high number of buys, and blame others for a low number.

The guy posting just said that without a Nielson box, buying or not buying PPVs is the only way you can send a small message to the WWE.

ps. The food network doesn't want me to pay $45 to watch 2 1/2 hours of programming, when I get 4 hours a week for free.

There's no way Angle gets blamed for a low buyrate. At this point, even Vince has realized that Angle is something special, which is why he's being given another run with the title.

Through hell or high water, Vince is going to keep Angle and Brock on top. There's a reason they were pushed as quickly they were (both becoming champion in their rookie years). It's because Vince gets good publicity if someone with a real athletic background and pedigree is holding the company's top title. Vince WANTS to tell the media that an Olympic Gold Medalist is his champion. Vince WANTS to show the media that an NCAA heavyweight champion is his champion. So these two aren't getting depushed anytime soon.

If ANYONE'S going to become a scapegoat, it'll probably be John Cena.

Even if you're joking, and I don't mean to single you out but that's how timing works sometimes, this is a shining example of the very kind of myopic, cynical "wrestling commentary" that I hope with all my heart people can either get out of their system STAT...or post on some other board instead of here.

Point taken (though it was intended as a joke).

Upon further thought, no way Cena takes the fall for this one. If anything, many are comparing this to Fully Loaded 3 years ago (and shame on me for forgetting just DAYS after commenting on it) to when Angle got squashed like a bug before capturing the title in October.

But still, the buyrate's going to come in low for this PPV. And somebody's got to take the fall for it. It won't be Vince or Stephanie or the guys in the Triple Threat match. So who should get blamed?

Yes, I know. Obviously blame should go to the people who write this crap every Tuesday, but this is WWE we're talking about here!

This was a PPV that by just about everyone's standards enjoyed. Scooter gave out 4 matches over ***1/2. I know that business is down but RAW is still the top show in cable and they still do draw somewhat. Yes they are down from the high of 99 and 2000 but they are adjusting.

And in Meltzer's live coverage, he praised the quality of the show. But I guess he's still blinded by his WWE hate bias and everything he writes is so negative and totally off the mark.

Look I dont hate Meltzer i think he is for the most part fair and his historical pices are amazing.
I never said he has a bias I just think he hates Vince too much. Fact is without Vince Meltzer wouldnt have his job that he does. I never said he was off the mark or is so negative. I just said that he is very anti WWE right now thats all and he has alot of reasons he should be. Its just with a card like Vengence had he should have no reason to complain. Sure the APA and Sable v Steph crap was bad but every thing else looked like it came up huge.

Man, look how far SpongeBob fell. Damn! And the crappy Osbornes fell off all together! EXCELLENT.

Meanwhile, color me flabbergasted that the greatest show in the history of ever to appear of cable television is nowhere to be found.

I had no idea that HBO got that good of ratings. I was wrong about RAW being #1 but still it brings in more ratings then ESPN baseball and being #2 and #3 is very good.

As much as I like Dave's stuff, I do agree he does jump on the WWE bandwagon, regardless of the direction it is going. He always comes off as either too critical or too happy with things. Right now he is totally in the "WWE can do no right" mode. Cena losing last night would be perfect if the plan is to give him the win at Summerslam in a rematch. Maybe Cena will finally mature enough to get the win and the torch. That would be a great way to end this fued.

That is if UT is not going to get pulled into this Kane story.

The key is keeping all the McMahon drama all on one show. Unfortunetly it is seeping into Raw with Linda getting Tombstoned, and Vince confronting Kane. Hopefully this is just a quick storyline thing to get Kane over.

I still think to much McMahon is what's really dragging down the product. To much Triple H I can live with. He's a full time wrestler, but all this time that gets spent on Vince and Steph and Steph and Vince is sickening. It's not even the authority figure storyline that I'm sick of either. Bishoff is doing a great job as a dickhead and so was Morely. I'm even fine with Austin. Hell, bring in Commissoner Regal, Foley, HBK and even Slaughter. Just stop the McMahonia it's been running wild for far to long.
