I think the world needs a good Jesus movie to rattle certain cages every now and again. I for one can't wait for this movie to come out, maybe I'm just a sucker for some hype though, who knows. Click Here (cnn.com)

Like it or not, The Passion of The Christ has some good buzz going about it. Hell, the Pope friggin' said of the film "It is as it was", basically saying it's spot-on (more or less).

I hate movies about religion, and I'm gonna see this the first chance I get.

Didn't the Vatican subsequently release a statement saying that the Pope actually DIDN'T say this, and in fact he never even saw the movie?

Also, why is it that Mel tells us that this is the "real story" of Christ's death, and yet we still get a white Jesus.....?

There is a big argument between hte film company and the Vatican about the statement, some of it I believe down to the fact that it was never made an official announcement, so even if he did so it, it was bad form for the publicists to release the quote.

On, the "white Jesus" front, Mel did cave a little and "Jesus's" blue eyes are now digitally altered to brown.

The problem with the hype and criticism of this film comes down to the subject matter. Evangelists seem to be going over the top with praise, while Jewish groups are condemning it. The only review I've read from someone "in the middle" was in the London Evening Standard. Apparently the level of violence is extremely high and graphic, which may make it unsettling for some expecting a nice religious film.

Actually, I can't take credit for the reference in my title. CRZ sets up my title, and I do his. So - props to Chris for liking semi-obscure British TV shows. I did like the Prisoner game for the Apple II though. Does that count for anything?
